A question about the rules.

Lines 9 & 10 of column two of page 43 Book2 High Guard indicate the following about Stealth Jump Drives:

“A stealth drive takes up no extra tonnage but costs ten times the amount of a standard jump drive.”

In the Book3 Scouts add-on, the various ship designs seem to show stealth jump drives installed with only a 50% increase in the price of the Jump Drive. Why this discrepancy?
Which is more correct?

"It depends" :) Basically this is a decision for the GM.

If you decide to go along with it, perhaps the Scouts' drives were cheaper to build. Maybe they were subsidised by the Scout Service.

Or you could decide to standardise on one of the two options.

You could come up with various explanations for your decision.

Well, there are a couple of options.

Since stealth jump drives are detailed in High Guard, that is the primary source. The examples in the other books are wrong.

Or, since Scouts came out after High Guard, it overrules High Guard when there is a conflict in the rules.

But, I believe High Guard to be in error. The example ships with stealth jump drives in both the Scouts Book, and Supplement 2: Traders and Gunboats both have the cost as +50%. And I'm inclined to agree. The 10x cost listed in High Guard is way too expensive. (Though one of the ships in Traders & Gunboats has it as double the price. All other example ships have it at +50%.)

Thanks for the responses. It does sound more reasonable to go with the +50% option. Even with this, it seems that the economics would dictate that only large organizations (ie the Scouts, etc.) would be able to afford the increased drive cost. [Of course, if a pirate captured a Scout ship and salvaged the drive to install in another ship...:)]

The original High Guard did not have a price for the stealth jump drive, this was put in in a later verison after Traders & Gunboats and Scout where done.

Actually, two different price assumptions where used in Traders & Gunboats for the stealth jump drive...
