A Newbie

Batavian

Mongoose
Hi all on this Forum. This is my first post so go easy.

I have just got into ACTA. A bit late I hear you all cry but it just happened that way. I have been collecting miniatures since last August, buying up what I can find on the internet. I have quite a respectable collection. Most of the major fleets now.
I am really enjoying painting the models, especially the Minbari which I have just started painting.
I digress.
I am looking to play some games in the near future and taking part in this forum and encouraging you all not to let the embers die.
I am based in North West London (Harrow area) so if anyone is close and they fancy a game and no doubt some easy victories let me know.

Dam IT...another Islander!!!

Welcome Bat...I only complain cuz there's never a newbie in my neck of the woods.

Thanks for the welcome.

I do work for an airline though so travel to US tournament is certainly not out of the realms of possibility.

I can't imagine there will be too many newbies now though. I have been very lucky with my fleet purchases. Most of them from your shores. - Import tax is a real pain.

Looking forward to my first games.

Hey Bat, not exactly local, but if you drive, maybe speak to TGT or Burger about a game in Aldershot? Both are good players, and are pretty good on the rules.
Also, i really like Aldershot game club

Hiya fella, welcome to the game. As Hiffano suggested, the chaps down south (Burger, Neil, Jim etc...) are great players and all round good eggs.
Neil actually lives a lot closer to you than Aldershot - he's 10 minutes away, in Hillingdon! 8)
However, to get a good days gaming in with the finest players in the land (well, probably) keep your eyes open for upcoming tourneys in the Aldershot and/or Kettering areas in the not too distant future... :D

Hi guys thanks for all the welcomes. From reading the forums for a while you all seem a good bunch. Can't wait to get some games in and yes Hillingdon is just down the road so well up for some practices before a tournament - again pretty up for that though I only get one weekend off in seven though. So I need to know well in advance to get swaps with my colleagues.

Might be worth sending Neil (TGT is his forum name) a PM, see if you can get something organised...
What fleet(s) do you favour? Neil is a keen Minbari and Vree player, both of which can be a real problem for certain opponents :?

I might just do that although a PM out of the blue might be a bit weird!!

Fleets well um, I have Narn, Centauri, EA, Abbai, Dilgar and Minbari painted at the moment. Drazi, Vree and Raiders to do.

I have gone for 1 War point fleets to start with then plan to expand them as I go. Lots of bits in my unpainted box to add on to them.

Don't know what fleet I really favour at the moment. Any suggestions for a starter?

start with ea simple bits of everything and not difficult to play ok. hard to play bad, but also hard and rewarding to play really well.

Centauri are a very forgiving fleet with both they and the Dilgar kicking out a satifsfying amount of damage (and rolling lots of dice)

Earth are average at lots of things and can be hard work to get the best out of them

the other primary question is how do you like to play games?

L/R Sniper - Minbari, Vree
CHARGE! - Centauri, Dilgar
Attrition - Earth, Abbai

Yer, I quite like the Centauri but the Dilgar have got me at the moment. Just finished a Mishakur with its' fighter compliment so aching to give them a go.
Really like the Dilgar War book by My Hartnett and the supplement done by your good self. ( Bought some ships specially to do the Balosians!!)

Think I like charging in really!!!

Hah - The Narn are great fighters, just not always great in a battle! :D

Aldershot is probably where the next tourney will be held, unless of course you come 'Souff of the river' at any stage, in which case give me a shout!

Cheers.
