A Crusade Era Omega...

Court Jester

Mongoose
So part of one of my orders turned up today.

Two Omegas.

My joy was short lived as I opend the parcel to descover the quality of the castings, but I decided to not let that get in the way.

I decided the best way to avoid haveing nasty gangly bits of detail where whole swathes of the model were badly cast (I am guessing these are some very old molds...) I chose to update the figure so that it looked more in place with the rest of my Crusade Era ships whils keeping that "old Skool" feel.

So I messed about with some plasticard and wire and put this together...

I'll be painting it later on.

I gotta say, I'm impressed with that some of the folks around here can do with a little styrene plastic...!
This looks like it will be a winner, no doubt

Nice Conversion. I'd love to see it painted.

My Omega came in reasoably good condition so I had no worries.

The 2 Olympus I got in the Re-inforcement box were pretty bad so I used Green Stuff to fix it.

Description: With the influx of Shadow and ISA technology, The Earth Alliance ships have gotten progressively bigger and better. With the Success of the Nemesis and Marathon, Earthgov decided to investigate looking into refitting existing Omega's with these new technologies, and using their solid designs to testbed new inventions. The Alpha-class Advanced Destroyer is a result of this program, and mounts a heavier version of the Marathon's Neutron Cannon. The Alpah is also the first ship to test the newest innovation of Gauss/Matter technology of the EA, the Rail Cannon. Using gravitic principles derived from the Anti-Gravity technology given by the ISA and modified into Rail Gun technology, R & D has created a weapon capable of hurtling metal slugs at an even faster and more penetrating speeds, though this has caused a decrease in its range. Though all these new technologies have had to sacrifice the hangars notably attributed to an Omega Destroyer, the normally rotating section now houses not just gravitational technologies, but advanced hardware used in Marathons and Nemesi'.

Why does everyone insist on giving them boresighted weapons? Make it double damage and forward arc. Or leave it triple for all I care. If they are using shadow tech and slavaging weapons that had an arc why wouldnt they keep it that way? And why do boresights always have like 4AD? Why not 6 or 8 or more? If they are going to limit them by making it a boresight then give it some more hitting power.

It's a fleet thing. Now, let's focus back on the shiny awesome modle.

Painted to fi in wth the rest of the fleet, nothing to OTT of special but its quick. I think it needs a final coat of matt varnish to take the ;ast bit of shine out of the paint.

Well... I am happy with the finished item although some parts of it look a little rough and ready. This being the first time I have ever really manhandled plasticard I this way I am quite happy witthe results.

very very nice!!!

about my only thing would be the white antenna...I'm not sure what youre going for there...?

Chern

ps your plasticard work is fantastic!

They are a sensor array. Same sort of thing the Sharlin has at the front (if that is even a sensor...). I personally think it looks quite cool, making it look slightly more "techy" than a 3rd age Omega.

I did stop myself putting litle red stripes around some of them.... :D

I like the Antennas but I suspect what Chern was getting at was the white, looks a bit 'unfinished' other than that though, superb!

ps. the 'antennae' on the front of the Sharlin are not sensors they are in fact the main neutron lasers I believe ;)

I see. Well, Its true you see a lot of white broadcast mast's around these days (google a picture of te John Hancock building in Chicago, Ill) it just seems a little odd in the context of the EA ships (dark-hulled ones at that) to me.

Its your ship, color it what you want. Maybe it will look different against a star-matte playing surface. I think it just caught me off guard at first.

Nice work, very precise. I like the paint job, white antennae and all.

(Painted white to reflect heat and keep the Superconducting Quantum Interference Detectors working. Or something.)

Just a pity the current state of the Omega mould makes such measures necessary.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments :P

After thinking about wha you have said I have been pondering maybe toning down the colour and either using a drab khaki like the hull or making the white much more grey instead of white. But I'll try and grab some shots on a darker background and see how it turns out.

As a side note have you considered adding more 'sensor array' bits to your Oracle? It is a scout ship after all
I think that would be rather cool, but I would have to find some thinner wire first as the stuff I have been using would look far too thick on a Delphi. I'll see what I have about the place...
