A Call to Arms section of the website.

FYI, I downloaded all the pics except the Brakiri big cruiser and heavy carrier, which I couldn't find (though I think I may have them on another computer). I'll see if I can't put them together into a zip file if folks want them.

Cheers, Gary

I'll have to look more into Full Thrust.

Well worth a look, IMHO (it hasn't become the "standard" SF starship combat game for nothing). IIRC the early editions are available as free PDF downloads somewhere - I recalla bit of Googling revealed them pretty quickly.

It's an ok set of rules. Nothing to lose sleep over but for a "non universe" set of rules, it works.

Sorry to say, but I think a lot of people here are blowing this way out of porportion.

Mongoose have merged all their Babylon 5 products into one place on their site. A move which makes sence.

As they have stopped making the miniatures for the game there really is little point in having the 'now a counter game' and the roleplaying game in different parts of the site.

If and when Mongoose do make an expansion for ACTA it'll be in this part of their site.

As for the forum, I can't see whay they don't merge it with the VAC forum, from what I understand the 2 games use the same rules.

similar rules for sure, but I suspect the rantings of madmen demanding to know why a suluust is called a destroyer but is not in the same class as the omega etc, might Irc the historical buffs on the VAS forum.

The rules are not the same, only similar. For example in VAS you have attack dice and damage dice, rather than attack dice and "double damage".

Hey all,

Im not overly concerned with loosing the website. I'm also grateful that Mongoose is keeping the game going with rules sets etc. But, what im most concerned about is the lack of models. I came late into this game and have only a moderate ISA fleet.

What i would like to know is; whats happening to the license under which Mongoose produced the B5 stuff? Are they gonna hang onto it or allow other smaller companies to produce them? Its easy to see them wanting to hold onto it, but eventually people will want to expand, start even replace some of their models. What happens then? Eventually even the most loyal fan will move on to something else. If anything its, in their interest to allow another company to produce the models and allow more gamers to start the game.

They could even specify that the new company couldnt produce rule sets for them and therefore keep the rule book and fleet lists side of their business. Use them like a subcontractor (can you tell im an engineer? ) that way Mongoose dont have to worry about maintenance costs, staffing, etc. The cost of producing them is directly paid for by selling the models themselves. On the down side, the cost might increase to us gamers but the quality and volume could increase.

To be honest it seems a little short sighted of a company not to explore other routes for producing a very popular product like ACTA.

Just my 2 cents.

You're not the only one in the same boat ;)

Perhaps a more pertinent question is: What will happen to the moulds? If the moulds are destroyed then it won't be possible to cast any new minis without going through the whole sculpting/moulding process all over again. On the other hand, if the moulds are placed in storage, then it's feasible that, even if Mongoose aren't interested themselves, somebody else could feasibly cut a deal on the IP and the license to start churning them out again, even if its in smaller numbers...

Allegedly Mongoose are going to restart mini production in 2009.

Has this been confirmed? I thought it was just wishful thinking or a rumor to keep the torches and pitchforks at bay.

they stated Miniatures production will start again in 2009. Note however they made absolutely no comment on which particular mini's will be produced. Could be SSt again, a relaunch of BF evo, Matts new WWII game, his new space min game, any number of things

Oh ya, I forgot about the new space mini game. To me that screams the end of ACTA. I can't see Mongoose supporting 2 space combat games. To quote Ivonova, "We're screwed."

I'm hoping that there will be multiple launches in 2009.
Given that B5 ACTA is profitable i think Mongoose will attempt to re-launch something with it to fill up the foundry capacity.

I'm still confused about alot of things.
Ok, your having to subsidize the foundry because B5 ACTA is only accounting for about 1/3 of the foundry capacity.
Then why not just do monthly contracts with the foundry?
A production run every 3-4 months?
I'm sure the foundry would agree, because its either that or unemployment.
