760 Patrons - Going, Going, Gone!

Just to alert all Traveller fans...

The current version of 760 Patrons will be discontinued at the end of July. If you are after a copy, now is the time!

This book will be replaced in November by Supplement 1: 760 Patrons Second Edition. This will be an absolute MONSTER of a book (the biggest released yet for Traveller, by far, it looks like!), hardback, with individual Patrons in the original and well known 'adventure hook' format.

The current 760 Patrons details specific patrons so, as I said, if you want a copy, you do not have long before it disappears!

I've got a current copy of 760 Patrons.

Is it worth upgrading from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition?
Will there be an upgrade scheme from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition?

Hmmm, 760 Patrons was the least useful Traveller supplement I purchased. I suppose that's just me, but I seem to remember very similar comments about it. I'm therefore curious about the business decision to release an expanded second edition. I'm sure the sales figures of the first edition must reveal the wisdom of it.

You were not alone in your disappointment. If the new version is really 760 proper patron encounters, rather than a bunch of NPCs, then I would be interested in buying it: but I'll want to see the sample pdf pages before I part with my cash.

Quick question, which version of 760 Patrons will the LBB version that is listed as September 2010 be?

LBH

Well, seeing as the second edition is not out until November, the first :)

The feedback we have had is that people prefer the 'classic' patron/adventure hook format - hence the change.

Blimey, edition cycling is happening faster and faster these days.

Could have been worse. They might have had the idea for a whole series of Patron books - 760 Army Patrons, 760 Navy Patrons, 760 Scout Patrons, 760 Psion Patrons, 760 Wild Card Patrons, and thus kept the whole thing going for years ...

Whoops ...

And culminating in 760 Patron's Patrons

I don't want to joke about this, but we _did_ sketch out Supplement X: 760 More Patrons...

It is just such a useful book, and patrons are one of thise things you really cannot have enough of (though 760 may be getting close, I concur...).

I understand now.

I was thinking about this while driving to work today and decided what I'd personally really like to see is a second edition main rule book; All the typos fixed, armour values increased, aim for the kill rule included, some alternative combat rules suggested, differences between vacc suit/combat armour/HEV suit/battle dress spelt out clearly, etc. I know many would/will argue against this, but I'd gladly pay again for a revised main rule book even if it was just tweaking.

Updating ships and vehicles from the newer stuff available as well.

So is it worth having both editions then? I have no experience of the 'classic' Patron format....

LBH
The Classic Patron format is like the ones listed for the sample Patrons in the Mongoose core rulebook. Patrons had names, sometimes characteristics, skills and equipment.

There was also a d66 rumour table in the old CT system, too.
