So I played my game today and I guessed my opponents fleet exactly- remember the other thread?
I used:
Omega
Hyperion
Olympus
Hermes
Hermes
4 thunderbolts, 3 starfuries
He used:
Marathon
Hyperion
Chronos
Hermes
Hermes
5 starfuries.
While my fleet is red and Russian his was Grey/Grey Blue and based on German WWII ships. Wich led to a fun game.
Unfortuantly I forgot to take any photos and the game went down to the wire!
Both fleets set up in opposite corners of the map 4ft by 4ft. We were re-learning the rules so we didn't use any terrain (that and we don't have any yet).
My fleet was in a line of Olympus, Hyperion, Omega, Hermes, Hermes. directly opposite and 40inch away was the enemy fleet of a Chronos, Hermes, Hyperion, Marathon, Hermes.
I pushed my Hermes forward while the rest of the fleet moved up a little more cautiously. Unfortuantly 1 hermes was within Marathon range and was promptly blown out of the water.
My Omega Scrambled 2 more fighter wings so I had 3 thunders and 3 starfuries. They formed 2 squadrons each with the starfuries lining up against the 5 enemy furies and the thunders staying within the fleet confines.
Turn 2:
Fleets moved closer again. His Hyperion and Marathon lined up on my hyperion which was lined up on one of his Hermes. My Omega lined up on his Hyperion. My Olympus pushed ahead to get to grips with the Chronos while my other hermes moved up to launch its guns into the enemy Hyperion.
This turn our beams were just terrible with no major damage caused by any of it. However my Olympus and hermes missiles ripped into his Chronos and did some significant damage. Didn't cripple unfortuantly. I did get his hermes however.
Turn 3:
Fleets were turely emrboiled in a combat here and I lost initiative which really shafted me as I was 1 ship down. The fleets were about 3-4 inches away or already passing each other. The way I moved meant the Marathon linked both beams (fore and aft) on my Hyperion and Olympus respectivly.
Meanwhile my Omega lined up on his Hyperion. The fighters all got involved in dogfights as well.
The shooting phase was busy with ships blowing up left and right. Both my Olympus and Hyperion were destroyed. The Olympus was just a hulk but the Hyperion decided it was going to blow up next turn. In return I destroyed one of his Hermes and the Hyperion. I won all the dogfights bar one.
Turn 4:
Current fleets:
Mine - Omega, Hermes 3 starfuries, 3 thunderbolts
His - Marathon, Chronos, 1 starfury flight.
With an exploding Hyperion in our midst both Admirals decided to disengage. Both my ships went All Ahead Full to get ready for another pass. The German fleet did the same but thanks to being more mobile was turning back at a faster rate.
My fighters began to maul his Chronos but all my attacks failed and I lost 1 fury flight to anti-fighter. I took out his last fighter wing in a dogfight.
Turn 5:
His marathon and Chronos completed their turns while I only just began mine. Thanks to the Come About! order his Marathon was able to beam up on my Omega and caused signficiant damage (about 1/2 the Omega's hull). More of my fighters died with little to show for it.
Turn 6:
I won initiative thankfully. It meant the marathon lined up on my Hermes and my Omega lined up on the Chronos.
Both the Hermes and Chronos were destroyed, along with the last of my fighters...
Turn 7-11:
Loosing initiative again and with his Marathon in my side (soon to be rear) The writing was on the wall. esp as the Marathon wasn't significantly damaged. For the next few turns I used various orders such as Close Blast Doors, Run Silent and Come About to stay out of his beam sight but got caught once which led to the Omega being crippled. At the same time my mv. was reduced to 6 and -2AD to all weapons.
Carefuly moving meant for 2 turns we were side by side and led to me being only 5 points off becoming a hulk but then with 3AD my mini-beam shot into the Marathon. 2 hits, 2 sixes, crits into the Vital systems and weapons. Multiple explosions on the vital lead to the Marathon loosing 1/2 its hull points (hollow victory but at least I fought it down).
Next turn I was unable to get out any Beam sight and was promtly blown to bits.
Still it was a good game and observers at turn 2 all told me we should shake hands and start again because I was going to be slaughtered.
