2nd Edition MIniatures

Fenix

Mongoose
I know that GW puts out new miniatures for almost every race each edition, is Mongoose going to do the same thing? I've been thinking of buying some of the B5 minis, but I don't want to purchase any if they're going to be made obsolete in August.

None of the current models will be "illegal" come 2nd ed

I'd have even said none were getting replaced until we saw the Troligan. So some ships may get radical facelifts but the old troligan will still be completely legal

Indeed, it does remain the Achilles Heel of Mongoose.
But things are looking up, the designs and models have improved markedly.
:)

I agree the designs are slowly begining to improve, but then they would struggle to make them worse I hope. But the execution of the design is still poor. The Adira looks ok but is a bugger to biuild, the new Brakiri dreadnought is continuing the trend of oversized ships that lack detail. Don't they have a process to produce these ships in a scale that fits with the rest of the fleet?

The detail on these ships still need vast improvement. There's no excuse. I know some of these painted samples look good, but the detail is painted onto the model. Just look at some of the early EA ships and all of their detail. All they need to do is add some lines, plating, texture, guns, etc. I want to see some turrets and gun ports, dang it.

All of these smooth-finish ships are frustrating. The Myrmidons are a step in the right direction though.

Have to agree with a certain extent. While the old AOG models are a total PITA when in comes to assembling and cleanup work, once you finally DO get them done up they look rather nice.

Its a step in the right direction in the very least. I was quite impressed with the Z'Takk, and thats about as optimal as one can expect with going overboard with the analness.

So yes, while by and large the models are improving overall, the only are where theres been a downward trend is the detailing of the model. Its qutite easily fixed, and there is simply NO WAY Mongoose would put in all the work towards getting 2 ed near perfect and then screw up the mini's, nobodys that retarded.

Actually, if had to get my secretest extra-special wish, they would make swap out kits to diffentiate one variant ship for another be using a base mini for both.

Take the Omega for example. Make a standard hull form for the Omega, but leave certain things like the front weapons area, the sides and top of the superstructure, and the engines, I.E all the detail as seperate peices.
Sell the Hull form standalone, and then sell the variant detail peices standalone, one set for a regular Omega, another set for a Command Omega, yet another for a Pulse Omega.

What this means? Anyone experienced with Magnets and some modelling skill will be able to swap one detail set for another using the same hull form.
I would still sell both a Hull form and one set of detail peices as a packaged complete ship for the non-modeling inclined of course, probably cheaper than buying seperate. Prices being what they are, I still think most modelers would jump at the chance to use swappable manafactured peices rather than their own kitbash.s

Can't imagine any current model being unusable, although I've heard rumours that several variants are getting the chop. If you're going for Third Age EA I'd wait as there is new Omega and Olympus models on the way to replace the current ones (current Olympus is a bit too big and current Omega has issues due to the mold's age)

Don't mind the smoother look on alien hull designs. The new Drazi design (Firehawk) is well-detailed (expect it's more of a conversion than a new model) and the Brakiri at least have always had large flat areas on their big ships. Look at the Tashkat or the AOG dreadnought and carrier hulls.

If your list is full does that mean all members who aren't on it are now safe from your wrath?

I seem to recall Matt mentioning the Hyperion was getting a make-over because of the mounting point.

Just because of the mounting point! When I got the EA box I thought I'd been given four blobs of flash! It took me ages to file and whittle the hyperions into shape, as well as (gently) bending the engine area into line with the rest of the hull.

Which likely due to the age and heavy use of the mould. As such by redoing the mould to shift the mounting point they should also solve that problem.
