Mongoose
So i am one of the old timers who lavished every second of completing lonewolf books in the eighties and nineties. If i died, i did the whole series again. I was crazy, obsessed even. But i loved them. I spent years adapting the books to countless systems - warhammer, gurps, harp, well too many to mention, but they never felt right. Adding complicated rules systems just removed it from the heart of the books, but my inner gamer told me it had to be complicated. So i battled, battled and gave up, eventually, after a few failed attempts. It was like trying to kill the Chaos Master! Then the d20 system came out - i was over the moon. Then I read it and the more I read, it seemed like someone else had taken my favourite world setting and made it into something i no longer recognized. It had good background material, but it just didnt feel right. I was too much of a purest to accept it. So i forgot about it and gave up again.
Then today, i got the new book. I just cannot believe what i am holding. This is what i have been waiting for, for 25 years. I can hardly contain my emotions because its wonderful. Thank you Mongoose. And thankyou for getting Joe on this, because having his hand involved in this makes it credible, and makes it exactly the game I want to run. I dont want to run any other game from now on. I cannot wait for the other supplements. And the beauty is that not needing any serious rules, i can use the original books, however much the spines are at breaking point, to flesh out my own campaigns.
Ok a little evangelical, but in a way i feel born again. I am once again, the 13 year old geeky school kid that looked in awe at the cover of Fire on the Water, in my local Martins newsagent, who looked at the inside map, and Gary Chalks beautiful illustrations, and dreamed of roaming the lastlands for himself. Its a good day!
