2300AD, not 2320...

Here's hoping.
Absolutely, good luck Colin, a lot of us want this to happen, be a shame to let this setting die again after it had been so recently resurrected.

I would like to see 2300AD as a line, with continuing support. There are many things that I never got the opportunity to do with 2320AD, and would like to see come to light. Books of ships, atlases, adventures, exploration of the weirder corners of the 23xx universe.
I agree that the 2300AD setting had a lot of potential that did not get explored very far. I also loved the idea of the setting because it was "near future" for the most part.

Yes it was very easy to tell fantastic stories because we are almost there. Not sure what a Star Viking might think about anything in peculiar, but I have a fair idea what a U.S. Marine taking part in Operation Overlord would think.

As a 'one-time' contributor to 2320AD (i wihdrew my work... long story) i can atest to Colin's almost Godlike patience and think he would be PERFECT to lead 23XX into the future.

I also think 2300AD suffered from a lack of adventures like Ranger and operation Overlord. too many 'Cyber' games.

I've always though a book of 9 10 or so page short City based adventures would have been good...
hm
i might get writing! (after my stuff for Chaosium).

In two weeks I go to get the truck. After that, it's 1400 km, 2 days, 4 cats, 2 dogs, 1 wife, and 4 kids (we're bringing a spare :) ). A couple of mountain ranges, a 90 minute ferry ride, and all the foibles of a long trip.

It's gonna be fun...

After that, I can start thinking about 2300, and seeing what can be done.

Thanks for all the encouragement, and kind words. I hope something comes of all of this, and that I'm up to it after the move.

Nope. Only as a PDF. I was promised that when it got to actual print it would contain my artwork... a reasonable indicator that it didnt was that i was never paid.

The original plan was for the PDF to be re-released with updated artwork, layout and text, and for the print version to be based off that updated PDF.

The original PDF was supposed to be updated, for that matter, but never was. Too bad. There was some spectacular stuff created for it.

Well that just sucks. I have the pdf but to me it's just not the same. It would have been nice to see a print version, even if it was for T20.

Whee, so that's what a 1200-km move feels like. Not fun. I am now in Victoria. Now let's see waht I can do about 2300AD...

Ouch. been there, done that (Birmingham - Oslo only to come back 3 months later- not nice)

I am now in Victoria

Does her majesty mind? (sorry!)

Now let's see what I can do about 2300AD...

Is this in some official or semi-official way for Mongoose? Let me know if there's anything I can do Colin to support this. 2300AD/MGT would be cool and if you need any orbital views of planets or the logos again etc let me know. Even though ive now put the artwork on the 2300AD facebook page for free i'd still be happy to see them in print.
Hunters loss, matt sprange's gain i guess.

:Ahem: I meant the city of Victoria...

As to the rest of the question, I would like to see that come to pass. There is nothing official yet, though, in any way, shape or form...

Well, that's the beauty of Traveller now having its own OGL. You could very well do this as an effort independent of Mongoose. However, Mongoose does have the resources to help get the thing published.

But that's something we can worry about later. The question before the house is what needs to be changed or added to Traveller to make it 2300 AD compatible?
  • Character creation: Do we want to go with the Normal, Ectomorth, Endomorph, and Mesmorph body types?
Aliens: I don't think that should be too hard. We'd have to come up with a few new traits, especially for the Kafer's para-adrenal response.
Weapons and Equipment: We can pretty much borrow the lists we have now adding Pentapod gear as well.
Space Vehicle Design And Combat: THIS is the biggle since Traveller and 2300 AD operate on two diffent sets of assumption.
World Lists Again, that shouldn't be a major issue as long as everythign fits in the current Traveller paradigm
With the exception of space combat, fitting 2300 AD with Traveller should be a pretty simple.

You know I never really saw the need for the Normal, Ectomorph, Endomorph, and Mesmorph thing.

It's a flavour thing. Low-gee types tend to be ectomorphs, high-gee types tend to be mesomorphs or endomorphs. I left in 2320AD, and would likely do so with any Mongoose Traveller version.

Starship combat should be fairly simple, as the orignal 2300AD starship combat system was also fairly simple. It's startship construction, making it fit into MongTrav paradigms, that will be trickly. Luckily enough, I still own the 2320AD design sequence, so that should help.

I didn't mean that it wasn't going to be difficult, just the area that probably needed the most modifications.

Refresh my memory, how did you convert 2300 AD Mass to Traveller dtons?

I didn`t. I converted the volume values in Star Cruiser to dtons, and largely ignored mass. It was a trade-off, as I was instructed to make the systems as compatible as possible.
