2300AD: Invasion progress

Fans of 2300AD have been waiting for the Invasion campaign (covering the Kaefer attack on the French Arm) for a long, long time now.

But, good news - the manuscript is in, and it is a good 'un!

Editing has already started on it, and we are getting the warm, fuzzy vibes early on. In fact, I might go as far to say that if you have been humming and harring abut 2300AD, this might be the place to start your players. They begin the campaign as farmers on a colony world, and things, well, escalate from there..

The campaign is somewhat... larger than we had anticipated, and we are currently thinking it will end up as a double-book slipcase, but we will see.

Anyway, Invasion is here, it is being worked on, and I think you are likely to see it this summer!

All that jabbing the writers with cattle prods and initiating violent combat in the office has paid off!

At least I seem to remember that's how you create quality. Possibly I'm remembering the wrong side in the conflict.

Probably misremembering as the writer isn't in the office. Although, it is possible the writer was sent a remote control cattle prod.

I’m absultely buying a slipcase/box/whayever.

I'm thrilled that 'Invasion' is getting the treatment it's getting.
The original volume was 90 some-odd pages of footnotes and implications instead of a full-on adventure. It was awesome, but it didn't delve into anything with any depth at all. So to see the adventure expand into what I think it should have been is wonderful.

Excellent news, the Vah (Kafers) have too long been ignored.

Please add a third slip book, detailing the political inner workings of the Kafer Sphere, their colonies and how the Over Suzerains interact with each other. This was a huge hole that Game Masters had to develop back in the day when running the incredible David Nilson's Three Blind Mice in Challenge 37. The dynamics of how the Vah behave behind the Invasion, is essential for campaigns around the invasion story arc.

Lastly, a discussion of the evolution of Vah intelligence must be cycled into the strategy of their fleet tactics. The Vah should not use missiles as one example as the lessons of their Nuclear war are ingrained in "what works" and a missiles function is to destroy remotely without risking harming your side. The whole point of Vah combat IS to harm the other side, gaining intelligence and self enlightenment in that risk of harm. Remember, they are masters at combat because it's all they do, it is literally the stimulant that advances the race, and the thing they fight is other Vah.

Fighters roles need some thought as well, when filtered into primary mission of Vah Naval commanders "how can we find and engage the enemy". Perhaps only predominantly two types I would suggest, heavily armored sensor platforms to help find targets and fast attack ships that can chase damaged retreating hulks so engines can be disabled and more Vah enlightened with a boarding party and ship alliance switch to the victor.

Vah ships should enter a system wanting to find and be found by the enemy, so up front slug fests and boarding parties can ensue and stimulate the largest number of Vah. Active sensors blaring all the time would be a "what works" tactic that is the only saving grace for humans, as all Vah ships should be max armored and max gunned by their evolution. Ship survival of space combat in a slug fest is the primary design element of Vah Naval Architects. They want to charge at the humans and fight, allowing for epic human ambushes by missiles, sentinels, powered down hidden fighters, etc. Totally foreign to the Vah I would suggest.

Remember what Triumphant Destiny is trying to accomplish with the Vah invasion: Prove that the humans are indeed the Aach*ah (smart barbarian) that World Strider thought the universe would present to the Vah race and a Kra’kurruch* (a love of race genocidal war) must ensue to finally unite the Vah. The Vah who leads this effort can only be of course the Vah's Aach*ah (smart barbarian) over themselves, the genius TD.

Triumphant Destiny may well be the second Kch *k (the word is uncertain, but may best be translated as "disciple," without any religious connotations) to Striker of Stars, realizing the destiny of the Vah is to meet and defeat the universe delivered Aach*ah (smart barbarian).
That kind of Vah would be a scary bug to invade humanity.

Just saying...

so will the launch of invasion be supported with some nice plastic minis from wargames atlantic? Would be nice for some tactical engagements.
