2300:AD books and new traveller

Hi there,

I played 2300 25 years ago and loved it so I want to play again.

I have bought the core rule book but of course I need the base traveller rules to go with it.

So if I buy the new 2nd edition mongoose traveller book about to be released, is that going to be compatible with the current 2300 core rule book? Or should I buy the last edition traveller, about to go out of print?
Will there be an updated 2300 core rule book to go with the new traveller edition coming out?

I'm confused.

I saw some pictures of 2300 weapons posted on Google + .. are they from a new 2300 core book?

It is very likely there will be a new 2300AD core book for the new Traveller, according to this thread:

I asked the same question in this thread.

Since the 2300AD changes have not been given a releas date, as far as I know, I will probably at least get the core book soon. Others if they go on sale. I may get the PDFs, also, if it looks like the release dates are far away.

OK well thats great news, but now im in a kind of limbo.

Now i have to decide whether to buy the first edition traveller and play with that, knowing that it is now superseded, or wait until the 2ed 2300AD core book is released and play with the 2nd ed Traveller core book which i have alteady bought!

It would be great to know a rough timeline for the new book!
As someone in this position it would seem like a high priority release to me, and also surely from a business perspective, as it will drive more sales of the 2nd ed book.

Most of Traveller gets overwritten by 2300 anyway, so it doesn't really matter which edition of Traveller you have.

I don't know enough to say one way or another - I think I'm going to just run 2300AD with the new 2ed Traveller rule set and see what happens...

If it breaks then I'll just wing it like any good GM
