$18 shipping on a $75 order...

Gorgo

Mongoose
What gives?
I'd like to pre-order two ships and a squadron box. Total $74.97. Shipping $18.00
The blasted things show up at my place with $6.00 of postage on it.
What gives?

Several times I have thought of ordering direct and when my cart shows the shipping cost I cancel the order. It is ridiculous.

Have those of you in the US been checking the Mongoose store prices, those from ADB's online store, or both?

(Usually when I order from ADB to Canada, the delivery cost on the order is a little higher than it ends up being once the order is sent; but the difference is refunded back to whichever account I used to make the order.)

You are in the US? Our new rates should be very competitive in the US now.

I am in Canada.
I've placed about $450 through your US site and another $160 through your UK site.
My largest single purchase in the US was on the order of $109.98
Shipping came to a whopping $32.00. $141.98 total.
Postage on the box, postage mind you, not Fed Ex or UPS came to $8.20 for a fleet box and a decal transfer sheet.
I don't mind paying for service or speed but it is very annoying to receive badly packaged figs twisted and bent with no packing material for $32.00.
You may have gathered that I'm a complainer. I have complained in the past and gotten satisfaction from Mongoose.
Reading the posts and seeing that shipping has or is being resolved is excellent news but if you are going to resolve anything resolve it on-line first.
I'm an old grognard and frankly the $1000.00 I'm looking at spending over the next 12 months could be put to use elsewhere.
I don't know your retail market but I'd expect your online business to be paramount.
Get it sorted!

All part of the service :)

As a Canadian customer, what would you like to see as a flat rate on all packages, large or small?

I too have cancelled a few orders when I see the shipping price.

Case in point just looked to see if the prices are more in line as stated earlier in this thread. I want the sheet of transfers. $10 us dollars and $8 dollars to ship. Right that seems reasonable I guess I'll order 10. Unless you are overnighting it from the UK that is a RIP OFF.

So, as a Canadian customer, what would you like to see as a flat rate on all packages, large or small?

Thats a lot of cash to spend on star trek miniatures, or any group of hobbies, hehe.

Somebody's never played Warhammer... :P

Even $1,000, for one year, is a lot for warhammer. At least here, I know the prices are inflated in canada and austrailia so they might have to spend that much, but it hasnt been that way here in the US yet. Even $250 is enough for a decent army.

Well, It's been awhile since my last post. To answer Mr. Sprange question concerning shipping. I believe he should charge cost+ for shipping. These days it is easy to determine mailing costs based on three standard box sizes (envelope for the decals) charge postage plus a small premium for handling and packing. Basically 1/2 of your current charges...hell, you could even waive shipping on orders above a certain amount.

Concerning spending projections, I'm interested in having a fleet of all the major races plus
extras so that I have some flexibility when building that perfect squadron. At $15 a pop and $150 for a fleet box things add up plenty fast. Plus there are other expenses, scenery, battle boards, ancillary record keeping devices etc.
I enjoy painting the ships and expect to bunker in this winter with my fleets.

It is possible for some Empires (Feds in particular) to buy several copies of the Reinforcements box, or some other squadron box to get the exact mix you wanted, selling off the extra ships you don't need. This allows you to get ships for $8 each instead of $10 or even $15. The downside is that you might have what happened to me and get stuck with some Fed DN+BCH you can't unload because there isn't much demand on the secondary market for them. :(

There are some online sources for individual minis in the $12/ship range so it's possible to reduce the cost a bit. I also found a player who, after ordering 3 fleet boxes of ships, decided to get out of the game, and so I got a fleet box of Romulans for a pretty good discount. PM me if you need a Fed or Klingon fleet box at a discount from that person. :)

I know about the cost of assembling a good fleet. I've got nearly 80 Fed and Klingon ships, and if I didn't have profits from selling my base sticker to cover most of that cost it would have been painful on the wallet. It still wasn't cheap, but much more doable than shelling out full price.

Halving our postage charges for Canada would bring them within spitting range of US postal charges - and shipping to Canada costs much, much more, I am afraid.

Our problem is that, as the shipping costs stand, we lose out whenever someone in Canada orders two or more books. Now, I would be willing to bring the flat charge down to, say, $12 a time - but we would lose even more if $12 was still too high for some people. What would you say to $12?

This _is_ international shipping we are talking about, and it is not cheap.

Isn't the problem that $18 for International Shipping is way too high if you are just ordering a single slim pamphlet, but an absolute bargain if you are ordering half a dozen hardbacks?

Is it not possible to scale your international postal costs for people who just want to order small/thin/light items?

By the way, your UK postal prices are just fine! :D

UK postal prices are easy (though the Royal Mail has recently raised all prices _and_ stuck VAT on to just about everything - not good for a small business). Europe is okay. International shipping has always been an issue, from Canada to Australia.

With the web site system we are using, scaling is not easy, especially when you take into account different countries, and that we ship from two different locations. The best situation, we feel, is to have a flat rate that everyone is happy with, and (eventually) offer free shipping above a certain amount.

We just need to find out what that flate rate is, so I ask Canadians again - what do you feel it should be?

Mr. Sprange
I took a look at the USPS international price calculator for Canadahttp://ircalc.usps.com/?country=10440 included a Fleet box and Decal sheet with the weight of the shipping box (1lb 10oz.). Total came to $8.30. Same as the postage on my box with the above mentioned materials.

I would suggest you charge a flat rate to (Toronto) Canada based upon the following,
$10.00 per fleet box. or 5-16 individual figs
$4.00 for 1-4 figs
$3.00 for Decals mailed alone.
The prices cover shipping materials as well as actual goods shipped.
Cheers!

ie Klingon fleet box, $10 +
D5W, D5, E4 x 2, $4
=$14 shipping
