100-ton Solo Yacht

Banded Mongoose

Designed to allow an individual to ply the spacelanes unaided. Some consider it a sport, others a way of life.

I've not had any time for Traveller since starting my new job, this is the draft (complete but unrefined) version of the first ship in my long-in-production Traveller module "7-ships". I might finish it one day, here's a sample in the meantime:

Extremely well done! :)

You should probably also include Expert Navigation in your software list in order to allow the ship to jump without a navigator (just a pilot). Expert Engineering would also be useful, as would be Expert Pilot (for even easier work to the solo occupant during routine operations).

Thanks to all for your comments.

Golan2072, you're absolutely right. I must have missed the detail about skill-based programs. I'll incorporate them into the eventual print version.

That's a beauty, Mark! It's also the first example of a Traveller use of what is actually a fairly high-profile meaning of the word "yacht" in the RW. Traveller tends to pigeon-hole yachts into the luxury plaything category, without acknowledging the more sporting and adventurous applications.

Hope you don't mind, I've posted a link to your site on the SFRPG Forums.

Very slick lucasdigital! Not just the excellent illustrations, but the interesting back story.

Might be nice to add the Jump and Thrust rating to the chart, and the -2 DM for sensors. Also, Fuel Scoops, 2 tons of processors might be Fuel Scoops, 40 tons per day.

Are the decks standard (3m) hieght? At a quick glance, the volumes don't seem to add up - but that is normal for deckplans...

(Didn't proof it - but there is a small glitch under the Construction paragraph between design and fast: ..the design fast couriers.)

An autodoc might come in usefull as standard gear.

Looking forward to that book!

Thanks BP, all good spots. As I said, this was a draft, I don't have time to complete. Errors on the stats sheet are down to me carrying text from my construction spreadsheet to the Mongoose style layout. I should re-engineer my spreadsheet to produce an output table that matches the Mongoose style.

I take my hat off sir. I'd never been able to spot minor errors from a quick glance. The decks are the standard height. The front view is intended to show the height limits, and show that black-filled decks are not full height. How much is the decking out by?

True, and thanks.

One of my design rules is "Don't over design", in some ways "don't do too good a job". Real world devices and vehicles are loaded with faults, compromises and limitations. I guess I'll chalk the lack of auto-doc down to this... ;-)

Very minor - and I really like your layout and choice of fonts (Gisha? and a MS chinese system font?) - it looks better to me than the official stuffs even though you copied the layout.

Ahh... keep your hat on kind sir! The volumes are easy to estimate by counting grid squares and rough estimating partials then dividing by two. My 'quick glance' comment generally referred to the living area and corridors (well over 10 tons excess) - the side profile decks don't look 2 squares high and the 3 m airlock hieght looks more like 6 m to scale. But your stats where missing 4.3 tons (the .7 caused me to do a quick add) - and with 10% design fudge, things probably come close - especially if decks are 7' high (~213.5cm). I didn't even look at the fuel or drive sections - that would have been impressive at a 'quick glance'...

Keep it - that's a very good rule!

What software do you use to create the ship's plans?

That would be Photoshop, although any image editing software that supports layers will do the job. Method is more important than what tool you use.

I find a vector program works better then an image editor for that sort of thing. But that's me, use whatever works for you.

Whoa - that's an awesome job in photoshop!

Did you use a 3D modeller for the other illustrations - or all photoshop?
