I enjoyed Conan the Mercenary but I cant give it a huge recommendation because of two things....its really short, much of the space is taken up by some very cool illustrations
also Conan is presented as a teenager which I didnt much care for
I have been told that the Sword of Skelos is the best
The Man who would be king is a good one!
I also liked Hidalgo..reminded me of El Borak
the Far Pavillons is an old movie that had an awesome battle in it!
March or Die also had an awesome battle
The Legionaire with Van damme was pretty darn good
These are my favs
King Arthur
Troy
Kingdom of...
essentially Howard started the Conan and Kull series so he wouldn't have to pay strict attention to dates, historical events, etc. He wrote pulp which meant he had to write a lot and write a lot fast. He wanted to do historical type adventures set in the ancient past but he didn't want to...
very good post there.....there seems to be a lot of interest in the Ape God and his role in the tale...interesting that!
I may post a revised synopsis first......this one was very hastily done but it seems to have scored a few points for me anyhow. I have something really big planned for the...
I just read a story called Crypt of the Cobra by the warhammer guy C L Werner. It was a total blast and about the closest thing Ive ever read to a Howard original. You can read this story for free on pulp and dagger.com...
The character is called Grenulf but you wont care after you start...
I really liked that poem called Surrender...it was strange and very cool....................the return of sir Richard Grenville was also pretty awesome , he was really great at poetry obviously
In my opinion Sign of the Moonbow by andrew j offutt is excellent.......its basically a sequel to Sword of the Gael.......really the two should be read together with Gael first but Moonbow is much superior.........that one is a near classic....Thulsa Doom plays a huge role and his part is well...
hmmmmmmmmm, now I do like the idea of folks finding a few corrupt government officials ripped mysteriously to shreds right before Valeria hits town....thats pretty cool and would better explain Shahjanna's reservations about sending her own guys to rob the tomb too. Possibly Valeria hasnt heard...
yeah, those are some good suggestions...........when i actually write the thing...if I do.........generally lots of plot elements are ironed out in the process and of course there will be lots more details...........
about the ape god...........i dont want him to be bad necessarily, in some...
those are some good points but remember it is a broad synopsis..................Actually Shahjanna does hire Valeria but she uses the black mail scheme to guarantee Valeria does the job
Good point about sending the army ....I should have made it clear that The Black Sect is powerful and and...
although they arent actual conan tales ...the brak tales by john jakes are very good indeed and essentially or very nearly the same as conan......biggest difference is Brak has blond hair. Jakes is good! To bad he didnt stay in fantasy
Valeria goes to an obscure border town in Turan called Mossarada the Dark. Due to its location, there is a thriving black market and money for her to steal. (She is surviving as a thief) For a few coins, a low ranking government official tips her off to a house where plenty of treasure is...
