Attacking with long weapons at close range

Another observation I'd add is that if you attempt to close distance without parrying, you end up eating the "other end" of the weapon anyway. If it's a staff type, and I strike at you with the "front" and you just get out of the way and try to close, there's nothing to stop me from hitting you...

Attacking with long weapons at close range

There's also a huge difference in speed. It takes a lot more practice and much more efficient technique to be quick with a longer weapon than with a shorter one. I'd agree with that -- especially when there are weapons involved. If you take a hit without armor on, the damage would be brutal...

Attacking with long weapons at close range

In our regular Kobudo training, we do a lot of paired training, and frequently that involves using a short weapon pair (e.g. tonfa, nunchiaku, sai) against a long weapon like a bo (ours are six feet long). The first thing that tends to take everyone by surprise once the person with the shorter...

    Quick question about bonus CAs

I don't think that's necessarily the case. With all of the paired weapons that I've trained with (sai, tonfa, kama), we use an angled stance, and partially hide one weapon behind the other. With sai one common "fighting stance" is to hold the front sai closed (i.e. tongue along the forearm) and...

    Typo in RQ Vikings

Vikings is definitely on my list... once my budget recovers from buying overseas plane tickets. :)

    Basic Combat Mechanics Question

Nice explanation... I like that there's a way for a character who's outclassed by an opponent to at least have a chance to disengage and escape, rather than feeling mechanically forced to stand and fight to the death :)

    RQII Skype Game for Newcomers

D'oh... I won't be done with my class until around 3:30pm EST... these pesky time zones get in the way sometimes. Sigh... except for that I'd be able to do it.

Ouch! Stop that! I'm trying to type here ;)

Or just use bigger chess pieces on a bigger board? ;)

    RQII Skype Game for Newcomers

Good timing... I should have had a chance to read through the rules by then :)

    Basic Combat Mechanics Question

You're still wrong, but note that I didn't say anything about instant lethality... unless you break someone's neck, or crush their throat (well, even that wouldn't quite be instant, but pretty quick). Where did I say anything about his bragging? He's definitely not that sort of person. What he...

    Basic Combat Mechanics Question

There's your problem: gut != solar plexus. Both of mentioned the significance of hit location... that hasn't changed. I haven't had to, fortunately... but some of my teachers have. (Military service.)

    Basic Combat Mechanics Question

You go on thinking that. What, like that's hard? You must be using Hollywood physics. Good luck with that.

    Basic Combat Mechanics Question

Yes... this is a significant part of the arts that I practice... That's a common misconception. You can kill someone with CPR by breaking off the xyphoid process and perforating the liver. I can hit a *lot* harder than someone just doing CPR, so it shouldn't be hard to see how that could be...

    Blue Planet

I suspect that "horrible" doesn't even begin to describe it. You have my condolences! I had no idea that you guys had those licenses... I've been a long time fan of Fading Suns and Blue Planet, and I just read the Equinox description -- it sounds like a great setting.
