Historical scenerios - which ones are balanced?

The Battle of the Barents Sea is pretty balanced as a game (historically the Germans were excessively timid and achieved little). In the First World War, Dogger Bank is reasonably balanced.

    How to base ships?

There's a picture of some of my WW1 ships showing the bases here: http://www.fluffycat.co.uk/Steves_Web_Page/Gallery.html

    How to base ships?

I base mine on 2mm MDF, paint the base a deep sea-green, apply label, then I cover the whole base with a thin layer of clear acrylic texture gel - sculpted lightly to look like waves, bow wave and wake. It stays shiny so looks very like water. It also seals the label nicely.

    Coronel battle report

    1. Did you find a model for the HMS Otranto? The best I can find is a generic British Armed Merchant Alcantara from Panzerschiffe. Yes, Navwar make it in 1:3000. It looks nothing like a generic armed merchant - it was a converted Cruise Ship. 2. Halving means either no fire at all (if you...

Battle of the Falklands -1914 Fleet pics

I posted data sheets for all the ships needed for Dogger Bank here: http://www.fluffycat.co.uk/Dreadnoughts.html Maybe I should add the Coronel/Falklands ships, as I've done those as well.

    Falklands AAR

It's in the scenario as a 'What if' - we added it to beef up the Germans a bit.

    Falklands AAR

The scenario is in the Rulebook, and the OOB is correct apart from the missing Carnarvon. The Bristol was definitely not at the battle - I have my grandfather's eye witness account which lists all the ships.

Battle of the Falklands -1914 Fleet pics

The Falklands is one of the scenarios in AoD (although the Carnarvon is missed out - annoying as it was my grandfather's ship). I don't recall the Bristol being present during the battle, but the Canopus did take part from Port Stanley harbour.... The book also contains Coronel, Dogger Bank, and...

    The question of scale

Yes, I use Navwar, and also Davco/Skytrex. Price is much the same. Navwar is generally slightly more accurate, and has a bigger range, but is a bit more of a pain to order.

    The question of scale

1:3000 are cheap to buy, and easy to paint, but big enough to see detail.

    Questions after my first game

No, you cannot go backwards. You have to move half your move before turning - but you are not obliged to go at maximum speed every turn, so your destroyer can choose to go only 4" and turn after 2". The 'unhittable destroyers' problem is fixed in OOB, along with a bunch of other issues...

    Small ships and bases

All ships are one to a base

    Qe Class Battle ships, help.

I'd think that they would be exactly the same as Warspite for the purposes of the game.

    AoD issues

    1. Having all ships with the same turn radius *is* realistic. Most WW1 ships did have very similar turn radii; also, it was very seldom a factor in battle. Small differences in speed are much more important, which is why I rate speed to the nearest half inch. 2. Ships can move through each...

    How to base ships?

If you don't base ships, how do you tell identical ships apart? For instance, in a River Plate refight, how do you tell the Ajax from the Achilles? Or in a Narvik game, how do you tell all those destroyers apart?
