    Pets/Animal Companions

Look at the sample wolf spirit for one way to handle it. An animal spirit might possess its corporeal counterpart to serve you. For more normal pet-type animals specifically trained for war, I'd treat them as NPCs. Perhaps give them an Obedience skill they roll to correctly follow simple orders.

how long will this version last? (runequest 2)

I'm in Scotland too, and it's hardly Outer Mongolia; we have electricity and everything! To me, MRQII is such a big improvement it's much better to have it than not. I'd be surprised if the game didn't see much wider usage thanks to the new edition, and hence more popularity and more books...

    Bows vs Slings

He wrote that it has a greater terminal effect. He may have meant that it hits with more force, but that is not clear from what he wrote. I may have misunderstood the pdf, but the author seemed to be saying that slings were deadlier when using plunging fire (because of the force gravity exerts...

    Bows vs Slings

See, for me this indicates a problem: it looks to me like the sling is being put on a pedestal a bit. Perhaps a reaction to the long years of it being underestimated. I mean, seriously, now not only is a sling superior to a bow, but (as a single shot weapon) to an AK47?! I think there is some...

    Bows vs Slings

The webpage referred to on wikipedia stresses the range advantage of a sling, but it also makes the point that the range advantage is possessed over indirect fire - ie, massed ranged fire such as might be used on a battlefield but which skirmishing systems like RQ don't really model. So I wonder...

    Bows vs Slings

Hi folks I'm trying to think of a reason why people would use bows, given that slings are better in almost every measurable way and culturally omnipresent. Historically, I think a sling is probably harder to use and probably a little less accurate than a bow, but given the game's paradigm for...

    Character Generator

Hi Thanks for this. I'm having a problem running it - when I "Generate Character", it crashed out due to an application error when trying to show the skill picker form (immediately after showing stats). You might want to take a look; it looks like it'll be a very useful tool when up and running!

Converting D&D Clerical Domains to MRQ Runes

I don't think that's entirely true - Evil may not exist an objective part of Glorantha, but Chaos is outside of Glorantha, and "seeks" to destroy it (even if, for a Gorp, only in the same way that water at the top of a slope seeks the bottom). This may not be Evil in the sense of having a...

    Spirit Magic

Thanks for the quick answers! I see what you mean, and the rule would be abusable under certain circumstances; perhaps then allowing it, but stipulating it costs a hero point and doesn't require a persistence check. That way it represents truly heroic effort, drains a highly limited resource...

    Bypass/Enhance Parry

By RAW just now, I don't think you can, but it is certainly possible to envision magic (Great Shield from old Earth temples, for example) or heroic abilities that give you the effects. I would guess that the "stackable" is just a provision for those cases.

    Spirit Magic

As a follow-up question, how is Discorporation actually achieved? I was reading the Spirit Combat section last night and it mentioned the possibility, but I have some specific questions I didn't see an answer to: 1) Does the spirit have to "touch" the target (ie, be in engagement distance)? 2)...

Converting D&D Clerical Domains to MRQ Runes

Hi I've added some comments: I don't think this is a good fit. As others have said above, Chaos in Glorantha isn't about disorder or rebellion or individuality, it's about dissolving the order that allows existence to occur. Like cosmic cancer, as someone said. It is universally reviled and...

    Request - Example characters

As promised, here is a sample character, a very straight-forward (and potentially deadly) warrior. Not so good on the defensive, but he is ferocious. If people are interested in seeing more powerful characters, I'd take Oolog up a few brackets experience-wise, based on the guidelines in the...

    Request - Example characters

    <bad joke>Wait a minute, are experienced character options in RQII, too?</bad joke>

    Request - Example characters

I think they're in there, unless I'm remembering a hallucination (which is theoretically possible, I suppose).
