CONAN pastiche + KERN trilogy: excellent reviews

Personally, I'd love to read an official compilation of Conan/REHowardverse stories, written by larger names in genre-storytelling. I'd certainly consider buying such a volume. Patische novels that are 1000 pages of padded dough, but basically the same, tired old crap? No thanks. :)

    Why the Greatsword?

Having just read two volumes of old school Howard restored, I can attest to the prevalence of the Greatsword as a martial weapon amongst the Hyborian Kingdoms. They seem quite common with Aquilonian and Nemedian Knights, Nemedian Adventurers and quite a few heavy infantry mercenary units. So...

Shadizar Map - Get It Here!

I just received my own mailed copy of the map today via the mail from Great Britain. Thank you, to those responsible at Mongoose.

Why isn't there a knight core class in Conan?

Likewise, I much prefer a game without the un-necessary bloat of the Prestiege classes. I'm all for them for simulating very specific groups, but against any form of profound proliferation, especially when a Prestiege class becomes freely available that duplicates the existing rules - but does...

Shadizar Map - Get It Here!

I've just sent off an email. Although your company does not have to, let it be said that those of us who purchase and support your Conan product line - thank you for taking the opportunity to correct and replace the map!

Why isn't there a knight core class in Conan?

I think that using the Solder class, or the Noble class, or multi-classing therein (or selection of Noble blood as a feat) already simulate Knights. After all, Knights are soliders and landed gentry (not always, but often). Sounds like a Soldier/Noble multiclass to me.

    Character Talk

I tend to get good characterisations whenever I run this game with my old group. Here's a link to a game I ran last year -http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=108245&page=1&pp=40 as an example. If cross-forum posting is frowned upon here, then apologies to the moderators here in advance.

    Combat manoeuvres

Thanks to the presence of combat maneovers, my players were literally trying to execute almost every single one in the book they can, out of curiousity.

Encouraging a player NOT to play a sorceror...

I'd be firm, but fair. Taking the 'soft' approach is not only a recipe for disaster, it's rather indecisive. If a GM has qualms about something in their games, they should speak up. For example, I don't allow Cimmerians in my own games - Conan was a one-of-kind character, the Cimmerians are not...

Any word on the Shadizar map?

This is good news. I'd love to see, and get a copy of, this improved/replacement map when it is released. Having bought the Shadizar boxed set recently, I found the maps were definately not the highlight in what was otherwise a fairly reasonable and useful source for portraying 'the city of...

    Disappointing Del Rey Sales

I personally have the first two Del Ray Conan compilations, but had to get them as imports, as they had no domestic release here in Australia. I found the quality of them to be excellent. As to why they might not be selling as well? It could be any number of factors; with only some of these...

    Rolling/buying/dealing ability scores

I personally use a point buy system, the value of which is given equally to each player, but varies between games/campaigns. I'm not a firm believer in the 'random roll' method, myself.

how much do you use MONSTERS?

I downplay the supernatural whenever possible. The more vague, underplayed and misunderstood - the better at creating a certain mood in play that suits the game. There's so much going on in the human world of Conan, that you can concern yourself there in lieu of the politics and machinations...

    Tortage Help...

Use the historical/real Tortage. Howard certainly did! Tortage was the port of call for many a pirate crew throughout that period. Careful research on the Net, or at a library, will probably even find an actual map of this old towne. Between that, and general information on piracy from...

    Trample and Mounted Overrun

Difficulty 15, so that a 5 ranked character could take a 10 unless you insisted otherwise. :)
