What miniatures do you use for VAS?

My 2nd hand French fleets are Navwar but everything I've bought from new is from Davco/Skytrex and will continue to be so until Navwar get into the 20th (let alone 21st) century with online ordering... I can't get my head around people using Hallmark 1/6000 for 'reasons of economy'; they are...

New fleets for new VaS gamer - Updated 26/10/10

Thanks, Cap'n! The bases are self adhesive floor tiles from Focus DIY. The ripple effect in the water is the pattern in the adhesive when you peel off the paper backing. I just superglue the ships on to the adhesive that's already there and then paint blue over the top before dry-brushing white.

    Napoleonic era Naval wargames

I enjoy the rules 'Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail'. They are similar in complexity to VaS though with little similarity in mechanisms. They are aimed as the name suggests at larger actions where other rules get bogged down. 'Trafalgar' is aimed at a handful of ships on each side and...

Does anyone have photo's of Navwar planes, please?

    Planes for VAS

Nice. I'm struggling for ideas about what to use for planes with my 1/3000 WW2 Med. stuff. What manufacturer / scale are yours?

Ray's VAS cheat sheet with game improving updates.

+1 I only have VaS and I wasn't planning on getting OOB anytime soon. However, looking at your play sheet I gather OOB changes quite a few of the rules, eg. flank speed, and must contain the closest thing there is to an errata for VaS? Is that correct? Does anyone have a link to a...

    SMS Von Der Tann

Erm, no. I was looking at the nice speckly sea surface that the ships are sitting on and, assuming it is a DIY surface, thought the same technique would look great on ship bases... Just an idea. Don't get me wrong, they look great as they are!

Nice. Are the turrets stuck on after painting to get such neat edges with the deck? Ever tempted to paint your bases to match the sea in the background?

RAR files are new to me. Is the downloadable trial version of WinRAR time-limited or feature-limited or both?

New fleets for new VaS gamer - Updated 26/10/10

I present my ‘completed’ WW2 Mediterranean fleets. I’m dead chuffed with these and can’t wait to use them… The Italians Battleship – Vittorio Veneto Heavy cruiser squadron - Trieste, Trento and Bolzano Cruiser squadron – Zara, Fiume and Pola Destroyer flotilla – Soldati class...

Although it's going off on a bit of a tangent now, I think the first post of this thread if kept up to date HAS to be worth a Sticky.

New fleets for new VaS gamer - Updated 26/10/10

Hi folks, this is my first post on the forum (since the Battlefield Evolution forum felt the axe) but hopefully not the last. I went to the Derby show earlier this month and finally purchased VaS. Later that weekend I ordered all the ships for the three Matapan scenarios from Skytrex; Davco...

I can see how that would be a breaker for you! If they could do Para's (Brits and Yanks) and Russians I would be a very happy man.

    A WaW Project Log

Kris, love what you've done so far and love that you're doing something so similar to me in terms of scale/timing. We've gone about it slightly differently but not much. I like the crisp, clean look of your figures; the subtle shading and highlighting of the grey works really well. If I hadn't...

This project has been on the cards ever since I worked my way through all of the Ambrose books a few years ago (Band of Brothers, etc.). I already play Blitzkrieg Commander in 1/300 scale for divisional size actions but have long seen the appeal of the totally different feel of 1:1 action! In...
