    High Guard is Here!

"The ship was never really meant to be a tail sitter" Just to clarify: that quote applies to this version of the AHL, and to that degree is correct. This new version is an alternate. The original AHL was certainly intended to have a vertical orientation, and its deck plans are still valid.

Where does it stop being Traveller?

I think it's easier to tell if something is "Traveller" rather than than "NOT Traveller". There are a number of telltales, but I don't know if anything is REQUIRED, except one thing: if you use a Traveller book for your game, it could be called a Traveller game.

    Starship Design, observation

Just a general observation that I had to put out there. I've had Mongoose Traveller for a long time now, but only recently have dug into the ship design system. I've found the basic starship design rules to be relatively painless to use. In the past, I was a "Book 2" ship designer. For those...

    Character Generator

I've written quite a bit of free software for Traveller. A lot of it is on the web, and Marc Miller knows about it. But, not for Mongoose Traveller (so far).

    bestiar for traveller

101 Animal Encounters, keyed by ecological niche, with a simple mechanic for generating basic predator-prey networks. A resource for referees.

Re: Basic Character Generation 2d6 SF SR

Ooooh, Paleo Wanderer. I like the way you added "Paleo" to it to reinforce its Lo-TL focus. I suppose "Paleo Traveller" or "PaleoTraveller" would work just as well. I'll have to think about that.

    Ship Design Philosophy

Excellent points all -- cheers Condottiere. Hmmm, I'll take an action item on those! Of course I think you're right -- 100 tons is not absolute. The limit is there to constrain writers (we all know what happens when the rules have some 'give' -- the writers 'take'!) In my games, however...

THAT is TOTALLY AWESOME. Thank you, Wil!

    Space "Gypsies"

A periodically gypsy-like culture, paraphrased from the Deneb sector book: The Lurent of Borlund (1406 Deneb) are a relatively common halo culture, jumping their planetoid homes from system-to-system during a tribe's migratory period. Lurenti planetoids have a population of 1 million to 100...

    Ship Design Philosophy

Cheers Condottiere! Got a couple extra thoughts for you. (a) Two 30-ton drop tanks, attached to a pinnace equipped with a jump drive, is sufficient to push the volume to 100 tons and allow it to jump. For a maneuver performance gain, drop the tanks upon entry into your target system. A bit...

That is an unanswerable question that I have seen asked before. Magic?

Jump Bubble diameter and location of Jump Drive

Hi Condottiere. The following are the guidelines I use when writing Traveller material. 1. What's the diameter of the Jump Bubble? Diameter = (Hull Tons * 13.5 )^1/3 *20 (in meters) and For most purposes, a Jump Bubble is about five times the diameter of the average of Length, Width, and...
