Local report here:
Two local game stores within 30 minutes (Annapolis Maryland, USA). The closer one (10 minutes) only about a foot of self space with Traveller 2E products and it is pretty neglected -- an incomplete set of Deepnight with some of the line having THREE books and most none. No...
I consider yours to be one of the most insightful posts on this thread. Here we are hearing about how ditching Charted Space would make everything magically better but in reality what we're looking at is that the REAL question is how do you get fantasy gamers to want to do sci fi gaming AT ALL...
Okay, "Dissolute" is on-topic but it's pretty semantically null. On reflection "Cad" should certainly be in there as a low rank.
"Prodigal" or "Debauchee" maybe? I'd say "Libertine" but that tends to be too direct in its accusations.
Any thoughts?
I think this one misses some opportunities. Four awesome name-calling names, but miss some opportunities. How about "Rake?"
So here is the rank table! How about some suggestions?

The one problem with "cool character concepts" is that they always tend to have to have Gun Combat 4 for <backstory reason>...and they're always 18 years old. The Alien RPG ref in my campaign was very unhappy to start at 34 years old -- "geezers in space" as he put it. Then again, his ALIEN...
When I introduced Traveller at my tabletop, the major pushback was from someone who wanted to do Alien RPG from Free League instead. This was while the forever DM was trying to retool us from 5e to Daggerheart and full group availability was a problem due to summer school activities for the...
I like your first point.
The second career is a problem though -- it's the Settler rather than an Explorer. I guess Cepheus went for more political based titles for the same reason I did -- it's hard to picture progress in being a settler but it is easier to picture civic growth and that would...
No, I am more of a child of an earlier generation where it took a bit of time to earn seniority and the managers had paid their dues with years on the job. More of an IBM than a call center... ;)
Not sure I understand that. Yeah, originally I thought about AI as a way to proceed after looking up as many previous incarnations of each career as possible (and had I done that this itch would have been scratched same day) but I decided that it would be more fun to brainstorm them up here.
Just trying to get all the sad little "--" out of rank titles in the core rulebook. I am trying to cover ALL the careers and when done I'll have a couple page supplement with the titles. I just think a bit of flavor here helps players envision what their career progression means in terms of...
Yeah, I realized that and tried with the "Professor or Scientist" approach. I did start from the Traveller 5 take on the career here.
But again, that's the point. Can we generate rank titles that are not university-centric that indicate a progression in the character's status and influence...
I'm actually thinking that changing the actual RAW is beyond what I want to do. At first, I just think this exercise should be to fill in missing rank titles so a character can feel a progression...
So I'm looking for help continuing the game of filling in rank names for all the dashes in the core rulebook. We already did Rogue, so let's go with Scholar. I've filled in all three tables this time though because similar careers were covered in Traveller 5, Cepheus and Spica in the past...
