Personally I like the e-mine as they are. Yes they are good against several of the more powerful fleets, ISA and Minbari, because of the e-mine. but then every fleet should have a fleet that it's afraid of. And it's better when it's different fleets that scare different fleets.
That more and...
Although I have to ask, who has 20 breaching pod figures?
Incidentally the gaim presented a problem with the number of breaching pods they can have, so I found a cheap answer for modelling them. Pistachio nut shells! mount them on upside down drawing pins, paint them up to match the gaim...
Hadn't even considered them in terms of campaigns, most were intended to just be fun to play rather than finely balanced campaign scenarios. Be interested to hear how well they work in that environment.
Out of curiosity, did you read the tactics articles that I used to write? If you did, what...
I too will be sad to see the end of B5 at Mongoose. Writing for it has provided a me with the odd fleet over the years so it's a sad day!
I'm hoping that they will continue the forum here and will not object to us talking about the old game once it's gone. However they may not have any choice...
SFB game length and time taken also varied alot with the different fleets being used. any kind of plasma ballet would take loads of turns but would still play relatively quickly while anything involving kzinti (massed drones) or worse Federation with carriers (massed fighters with even more...
An alternative would be for other people to provide you with a list of ships from your fleet that are available, say seven points worth at raid, then you get to pick your actual fleet from those ships. Means you can still tailor your fleet to your playing style to some extent, but don't have...
Tried it, and found that it wasn't that much quicker and lost more than it gained over SFB, but then I'm one of those lunatics who's fought the General war in F&E, now that took some time!
Don't like the Star Trek TV shows. Do like wargaming in the trek universe but already play SFB, which was designed from the ground up to cover the universe, and does so in great detail.
Do like Farscape, BSG and Firefly as TV shows, but of these only Farscape has real potential as a wargame...
Triggy: I wasn't saying that it was arbitary, just that it appeared so without the background to the decision.
Vorlons not launching fighters on screen, I think that has more to do with the Vorlons never being caught unready for combat so never having to launch their fighters when the camera...
Triggy: This is not the first time that somebody from Mongoose has said that it's policy for some fleets to have types of ships missing. I'm sure you have reasons for this, however to the rest of us it just seams like an arbitary decision handed down from on high. I think that a lot of...
