    Three d100 rolls

I agree. The Mongoose opposed roll works great and returns a very nice result. The higher your skill, the better the chance you have against any opponent. The only problem is the halving rule. Numerous fixes presented on this forum though.

Fun session yesterday - Kudos to Mongoose.

Glad you had fun! It bodes well for the game I am organizing. Of course a lot of the problems that have been pointed out only become an issue at higher levels, so I am not surprised you didn't run into them. What I would really like to hear is how a veteran and hero-level game worked out.

    Fun with Fatigue

You know, we have always used the fatigue rules in RQ3. It wasn't hard by any stretch of the imagination. Str+Con=Fatigue Points, subtract Enc to get remaining Fatigue Points. Then subtract 1 per round. (Put a mark over the number, just like Magic Points.) If you go into negative Fatigue you...

    Spirit Combat

Yes I can house rule and I will, but this is just one more thing. Actually I like D&D3.x quite a bit. I have a regular game every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. But if I wanted to play D&D, I would. If I want to play RuneQuest, I would like it to be RuneQuest. Please note that I never said...

Potential Problems with Arms & Equipment Book

Couldn't agree more with Nickbergquist. Very well said. The important question is. Could you change anything in this book even if you wanted to? I mean, is the draft already final and Mongoose won't accept any changes? I ask because I pointed out some fairly obvious errors (repeated text...

    Spirit Combat

I have been holding off on this for a while, but I really wanted to hear what people thought. First, the system looks fairly solid. That is to say, it works. The only sticking point is possession, and even that works if you don't mind characters being taken over with relative ease. That said...

Some tested houserules that appear to work...

Role reversal! Now I get to argue for MRQ as written. Well, at least a little. :) I like the Brute Force, Resilience, and Persistence part. All good there. I personally don't care for the Armor skill. I have just halved the penalty and removed it altogether from Weapon skills. I actually like...

    I just got RQ Monsters

Yeah, I don't know if you want to bother reading all 18 pages. It basically boils down to this. People have a preconceived notion of what elves are and what they look like. Greg Stafford altered his version of elves for RuneQuest and linked them with the plant runes. Now here is where the...

Potential Problems with Arms & Equipment Book

Because it is wrong and it is sloppy. I find it hard to believe that they realized that rifle was the wrong term but decided to use it anyway.

You'll get a kick out of this, Melkor...

Yes, that is pretty much it. If you fumble an attack you drop your weapon, fumble a parry you drop your parrying weapon, if you fumble a dodge you fall prone. It is only going to happen once out of a hundred rolls, so you are not going to see weapons flying everywhere. Left up to the GM what...

Potential Problems with Arms & Equipment Book

So the way I read this no effort will be made to correct the term rifle and change it to gun. If you are happy spreading misinformation I guess we will have to live with it. I used to argue that RPG were good for kids because they learned so much from them. I may have to give up that argument. :(

You'll get a kick out of this, Melkor...

Well a whole lot of people, myself included, really dislike the fact that the fumble rules just fall back on GM fiat. Why not just let the GM decide what a critical does? I don't think we will agree on this, and it is a matter of personal preference (required line), but for a lot of people the...

    Cults of Glorantha Preview

At this point the Glorantha material is what I am looking forward to. It really does look top notch. No comment on core rules.

Errors in RQ Companion 2nd Preview

I resurrected this thread to comment that the errors (not counting the correct spelling of "neutralised" of course) are now in the published version of the Companion. Was it really too late to fix back in July?

    Another missing thread?

After having read the Companion a little more thoroughly this statement is very misleading. Sure the rules cap at +3 damage for a high quality weapon, but Weaponblessing is (as far as I can tell) unlimited. So you can spend 5 Pow and get a sword that is +25% to hit, +5 damage. If that is not a...
