Another option would just be to buy the ADB plastic stands for $0.50 each and just mount the new ships on the old stands. Using either super glue or small magnets would make this easy to do.

Instead of trying to shrink the size of the 2500 ships, would it possible to make maps with bigger hexes that worked better with the larger ships?
