Same here. Finished watching it (again) last year. Blake's 7 sh*ts all over B5, fer sure. Maybe not in the effects department, but ideas, acting, and characters.... And certainly the Liberator is one of the best designed ship's in sfdom. :)

Use videogames as shorthand for tactical situations, as in, most players will also probably play Xbox or whathaveyou, and lots of games require tactical decisions in combat, especially the squad based shooters. Multiplayer probably won't help, as the best tactic still seems to be running...

Do opposing fighter swarms get the -4 to hit when attacking a fighter swarm? If not, then it seems high tech fighters are best at taking down other hight tech fighters...? :)

As a postscript to Rust's post, while planning a tactical fighting area is a lot of planning, giving the players differently equipped/armed opponents would necessitate different tactics in order to defeat them, and requires less (or at least, reusable) prep. One group could have long range...

Go for it. The only thing Traveller is missing is shields, and that's very doable. I specced up an OTU version of the Normandy (kind of a hybrid of sr1 and sr2) over on the sfrpg forums, if that's any use at all. Also, CB3 will have some ME inspired careers in it, tho unsure when that will...

Also get the prospective players to watch some heist movies, so they're aware of the concepts you'll be putting them up against. Highly recommend Burn Notice for all kinds of modern heisty scoundrely agenty stuff. Higly formulaic, but you (and your players) will get a crash course in plausible...

That's my current game, more or less... Also: Starhunter; as is. Or, alternatively, Cowboy Bebop. The Professionals; set on a hi-tech but run down world, where everyone has bad haircuts, and insist on flying air/rafts through plate glass windows. Planetes; garbage can be fun. Buck Rogers...

Hey, the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack is pretty useful. Darker than the first one, but perhaps more heroic also. I'm doing for Traveller what I've done for DnD. For that I've created an iTunes playlist for combat (fighting), spooky (dungeon's etc), and relaxed (back in town), using the soundtracks...

I'd add Athletics (endurance) to that check...

I think a movie trilogy of Foundation misses the point. There's no way they can cram in the ideas inthose books into a 3 act movie. They'd make a much better tv series. BTW, I think the same about the LOTR movies; I don't think anyone could have really done a better job at translating Tolkien...
