I love lower-level games! The Good Old Fashioned Goblin's Are Attacking The Village plot is still my favorite! Once players get to high levels, they seem to think that they have become more powerful than the DM oftimes. Sometimes in the high level games, i have to give the bad guys ridiculous...

I also don't think they could be left for dead if a spiteful enemy made good and sure that they were dead, i.e. nailing them to a wall and eviscerating them, removing their eyes and tongues.... (One of my players did that to another player, none of my doing.)

If they were wearing gauntlets, yeah, I'd allow it, but it would still be hard, i think.

As far as crits go, i never really liked the rolling to confirm a crit. IMC I only make them roll to confirm on extended ranges (i.e. if they roll a 19 for a slashing weapon). The way I see it, if a 1 is always a botch, then a 20 should always be a crit.

I think that an unarmed combatant could parry a hafted weapon, i.e. battle axe, bardiche, etc. I don't think i'd try to parry a tulwar without a weapon though. Without the Imp Unarmed Strike, i'd give them a penalty to their Parry rating. I think one could rule then non-proficient and give 'em...
