Can a ship that is running adrift enter a jumppoint that is in front of it?

How should fighters react in the first round of ambush. These cannot check to see if they can act normally as they have no crew quality checks. If they are escorting what can they do? If they are flying in along side a ship what can they do? Please could we have some input
