    5,000kph and other questions....

"apparently the first aircraft to shoot itself down..." Haha! Classic stuff. I didn't know that either, although I did know it was theoretically possible, I would have said that the major reason is the engagement window - you need some essentialy super-human reactions and top-notch thinking...

    5,000kph and other questions....

"One word of wisdom about arming your fighter - guns won't work. The US built the YF12-A interceptor (later modified into the SR-71) and put guns on it to shoot down Soviet bombers. Unfortunately the aircraft tended to exceed the muzzle velocity of the guns, which the designers didn't take into...

Favourite (possibly unrealistic) setting to convert?

There's some "Steampunk" and "Jules Verne" style sourcebooks for GURPS, actually... I just recently acquired a lot of GURPS stuff, including some of the Transhuman Space stuff I wanted and brand new hardcopies of 4E, as it happens.

    Scouts: Is it worth it?

I enjoyed Scouts... there were a couple of inaccuracies, based on common (false) ideas about certain environments and survival but overall I thought it added a lot to Traveller and would certainly be used by me in a Traveller based campaign.

Err, no it's not, emotionally attached as you might be to the COTI thing. Indeed, I'm not at all emotionally invested in this but I can follow logic rather well and make 'easy points' to paraphrase you, from relatively trivial facts. This is the case, of course, because it's trivially easy to...

Atomic rockets and other cool stuff

Radius and you do indeed need a very wide cylinder or a very fast spin (or moderately high on both) to get a centripetal reaction giving apparent gravity approaching anything like Earth standard gravity.

A fallacious argument that amounts to an attempt to argue that political changes mean France is not the same but changes of similar magnitude mean the USA is. No dice, mate. In fairness, you're probably just ignorant of the political system of both. Nor indeed for us to be 'grateful' to...

    Feedback from a Player

Sharing the load of rules resolution and bookkeeping is easy and should be routine (in other words you want to move in that direction, quickly, with a new group) - some very basic stuff that helps is (talking generic rpg here, btw): In combat, have people roll their "to hit" and also roll...

No, that would be logical, as you just argued yourself (as logical as 'hating' France, at any rate) and the "you're useless militarily" would make slightly more sense, too, levelled against the people they beat as opposed to the people who helped beat them. Incidentally, not just because the...

    High Guard Replacements

Very generous offer, I missed this thread earlier. I have no intention of returning any merchandise though and I'm incredibly impressed with Mongoose overall, as well as their products.

    Psion is HERE!

So... I'm kind of tempted to go there, create an account and make my first post:My thoughts on Traveller? Nice rules system, pity about the background... but at least with new official version from Mongoose I can just dump all the horrible kludge and concentrate on the essence of Traveller...

Funnily enough I'd argue that "as an American" (USA) you're hugely indebted to the French and ought to be grateful, by default, not hostile. Of course, I agree with Tathlum; avoid the propaganda and 'national loyalties' and just judge individuals on their own merits not their cultural identity...
