Hey, I'm probably just being a noob, but what book are you talking about? The only Galactic Guide I can find anywhere is the 1st ed. (black cover), didn't know about any 2nd ed. (blue cover) version.

Which goes to show that at least the warrior caste and the religious caste had differing views on this practice. Shame the bridge crew/commander were/was warrior caste (iirc).
