While I intend to buy all the books, I just can't afford to stump up the money in one go. I'd prefer some sort of subscription thing so I could be guaranteed the Collector's Editions, even if the financial benefits were less than the Mega Deal model.

I always choose the same set of skills that Sunlord lists above but with Mindshield instead of Sixth Sense. I quite like the idea of getting all the stat/battle based skills out of the way so the extra ones are kind of like a bonus.

Depends what your priorities are really. If you want a durable hardback collection of Lone Wolf books made with quality materials then this is probably the only chance you'll get during your lifetime, or at least for several decades, so complaining about a minor cosmetic change seems a little...
I get the feeling they do, yeah. Are there any important disadvantages to missing those encounters? Or to put it another way, are there any important advantages to be gained by going through them?
