Thanks. I now see that some events grant an automatic promotion or commission. I think the example is just wrong. It implies that a commission and an advancement roll was made in the same term. There is no mention of an event that gave this character a promotion.

Hello, I am confused by the character creation example in High Guard. On pg. 40 under the First Term it states: He distinguishes himself and wins his commission. And then: ....gains Melee 1 from being a rank 1 officer and Leadership 1 from being a rank 2 officer. Now, the first term was...
