    Char-Gen: Aliens Notable/Weak Characteristic

Do you mean +2 on the throw to generate the attribute, or +2 on throws using the attribute it play after it has been generated? That's the crux of the question.

    Char-Gen: Aliens Notable/Weak Characteristic

My reading of the alien section of character generation is that, if the species has a Notable or Weak attribute, the roll generating that attribute is raised or lowered by 2. Thus a species with a Notable Strength who rolled a 7 who have an actual Str of 9. However, over in this rpg.net thread...

    Critique my Ship Record Sheet

I believe a ship can divide its maximum jump potential (and fuel for such) into smaller increments as long as the total's the same. Thus, a Jump-3 ship with fuel for a single Jump-3 could alternately make a Jump-2 and a Jump-1, or three successive Jump-1's. Traditionally though just the ship's...

    Critique my Ship Record Sheet

Posted on my wiki: http://trollbones.wikidot.com/local--files/traveller/TravShipSheet.pdf Mainly this is intended to be a useful form more than pretty or evocative. As such, is there any practical information that could be added? Any datum that folks notice has come up a lot during play?

A mildly sane explaination of canon discussion

I think we're coming at this from different perspectives. You're talking about discussion of the Third Imperium setting (and other fictional ones) as a subject independent from its use in actual play. From that perspective, anyone involved in such a discussion definitely needs to be talking from...

A mildly sane explaination of canon discussion

I have to admit, my least favorite part of Traveller are the guardians of canon in its fanbase. I don't even think the Third Imperium itself is much of a setting, and rather would like it if the inherent link between the game and that old setting was severed. captainjack23, I appreciatte tho...

    Low Passage & Low Berths

I'm inclined to agree, but adding in those DM's pushed the process into the realm of the over-fiddly for my tastes, so I left it unspoken. I'm willing to imagine that the Low Berth is one of those thoroughly standardized devicess that's been refined over centuries of use to be as simple...

    Low Passage & Low Berths

Coming back to the subject and considering some of the suggestions made in this discussion, I've modified my original suggestion in the OP. I've kept the outcomes I originally suggested, but done away with the random chart, consolidated the process, made Freezer Shock a possibility even on a...

First Ship Design On My Blog!

Nicely done. A lil' ship that packs quite a wallop. Love the illustration to!

    Low Passage & Low Berths

Sure, just reverse the number order and read the numeral as the degree: 1: Freezer Shock 2: Freezer Shock 3: Freezer Shock, Effect as Damage Dice 4: Freezer Shock, Effect as Damage Dice 5: Freezer Shock, Effect as Damage Dice, Aging Roll with Effect as DM 6: Freezer Shock, Effect as Damage...

    Low Passage & Low Berths

The book doesn't give any Difficulty either way for the Medic roll, so I assumed an unmodified roll for 8+. Assuming an Easy task does indeed help a lot. Even better would be a relatively quick time interval, (say 10-60 minutes), allowing a reasonable chance for a positive DM for extra time...

    Low Passage & Low Berths

I think you're being unfair to the Mongoose book, since even by the CT percentages you give there's still a unacceptable risk of death; the problem isn't degrees, its the basic assumption that failed low passage leads to death. To present a real world example, would you get on a airliner if it...

    Low Passage & Low Berths

The main book has surprisingly little information about the operation of Low Berths, ubiquitous though they be in space-faring society implied by the rules. Especially when it comes to their harsh treatment of passengers. All that's said is that upon thawing, a Medic roll must be made for the...

    D66 System Oddities

Thanks for the suggestions Zanwot, I especially like the magnetic field ones, a rich possibility for weirdness.

    D66 System Oddities

I've thought about adding those things before, but in the end I feel it pushes the world-gen process into the realm of the overly-fussy. In Traveller, world-gen has always been about immediately relevant facts, not causes; why a world has Tech 12 isn't as important as the fact that it does.
