I would just go with what ever looks right. even with modern color matching the chemicals don't always behave in the pigments. I just looked at some pic of PLA armor. I think that the PLA paint for the job. If desert the go Tan and Green or Tan and soomething greenish, woodlands or grass lands...

I did touch up painting to modify 3 Rahn Fokker Triplanes for Wings at War I redid the insignia on the Baracca SPAD XIII to make it a US plane and, I began working on my Belgian squadron too.
