ADB Opens a Store on Shapeways

Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc. is pleased to announce a new way to acquire the ships that you love. We have opened a new store on Shapeways which you can find here: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/amarillo-design-bureau-inc

We have ships in three scales:

3788 Scale (1/3788) is the classic scale that makes the Federation heavy cruiser three inches long. Ships in this scale should look at home next to your Starline 2400 miniatures.

3125 Scale (1/3125) provides larger ships that some gamers prefer, especially for tabletop games or display. Ships in this scale should look at home next to your Starline 2500 miniatures.

Omni Scale is a range of miniatures that cannot be done in either of the above scales because they would be too big (a starbase would be bigger than a dinner plate) or too small (fighters would be smaller than the head of a pin). Some "General" cargo ships are done in Omni Scale to reduce cost as cargo ships are really big compared to warships.

For our opening we have the iconic Constitution-class heavy cruiser from the Federation and its opponent, the Klingon D7B battlecruiser. There are other ships from the Romulan (including the Romulan Vulture designed by Mongoose) and Klingon empires.

We also chose ships from empires that are a bit different (the Seltorians who are foes of the Tholians) or from the minds of simulator programmers (the Frax, used to train officers of the Klingon Deep Space Fleet to handle unexpected enemies). We will be adding ships from the Omega Octant in the near future.

What is an empire without its logistical fleet (sometimes called "targets")? We have started adding freighters and the never-seen-before skid utility ships.

If you have an account on Shapeways, don't forget to follow us (adbinc) to get all the announcements.

We hope to see you there!

Second Wave of Ships Released!

On July 11, 2017, Amarillo Design Bureau released its second wave of ships in its store on Shapeways.

The Tholians show up with a web tender, their iconic patrol corvette, and a flotilla of Arachnid gunboats. (ACTASF players, the patrol corvette is one you asked for!)

The Klingons get some love with the D6S, a heavy scout cruiser and a G1 gunboat flotilla, including the leader and scout gunboats.

The Hydrans have a strong opening with a Lancer destroyer, Ranger cruiser, Mongol medium cruiser, and Stingers for you to add to the ships.

The Seltorians have a light cruiser and frigate added to the destroyer and heavy cruiser.

The Frax get a frigate and war cruiser to add to their war destroyer and heavy cruiser.

What are they going to fight? Well, there's Igneous, a monster that is available in three sizes.

So you need to expand your freighter collection? We've added a harbor tug, a salvage tug, and the traditional large freighter.

Spread your wings and try the Omega Octant! We chose two traditional foes to open with: the Maesron Alliance and Trobrin Empire. The Maesrons get a destroyer and heavy cruiser; the Trobrins get their heavy cruiser and frigate.

Check all these out here: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/amarillo-design-bureau-inc

Could I ask do you sell compatible bases, either at Shapeways or via the main ADB store?
I would be looking mostly for Call to Arms, but also possibly for gaming SFB on big hexes....
Thanks

Thanks, would be useful and the SFB ones were there as well.

Shapeways has the advantage to me that they can print in Europe from the Eindhoven plant, which means both quicker delivery and taxes are so much easier to deal with. While taxes aren't an issue from the US so long as the goods are below 18GBP (23USD), if I buy a large order then 20% VAT gets added to the total of both goods plus shipping then plus a fixed customs agent fee so for big orders I'd rather get as much from Shapeways as possible and the speed is nice too.

As its a simple shape that isn't going to get painted, then I could go for a cheaper plastic to lower cost too. As such, I guess if the pricepoint is 50% extra to double the US based cost that you linked then it might still be viable for me on Shapeways if I am doing an order there. Don't know if that helps on marketing or not?

We aren't turning a huge profit on the Shapeways ships. Shapeways gets its cut, the sculptors get theirs, then ADB has to pay royalties, and we get what is left over. Some of the big ships are expensive in Frosted Ultra and Hi-Def Black Acrylate. They use a lot of the 3d printing "stuff" and it isn't cheap. :( But we will always try to keep the prices down for you.

Third Wave of Ships Released!

On August 1, 2017, Amarillo Design Bureau released its third wave of ships (55 in all, for over 100 available ships) in its store on Shapeways.

The Federation gets the gunboat they would have built, but never did, the Thunderbolt.

The Klingons get some love with the C8B dreadnought and the fancier C8K refitted dreadnought.

The Romulans get their Condor dreadnought.

The Tholians greatly expand their fleet with their destroyer, heavy cruiser, war cruiser, and police cutter. The very first carrier with the fighters molded into the miniature is the one-piece Black Widow. They also get a cargo patrol corvette with an attached pod. Do you want to show the Spider fighters flying away from the Black Widow? There's a comb of them, waiting for you. And the Tholians get the first empire-specific freighter.

The Hydrans add to their fleet with the Dragoon cruiser, Knight destroyer, and Hunter frigate.

The Seltorians add a dreadnought to command their fleet. They also get a flotilla of Avenger gunboats.

The Frax get a dreadnought to lead their fleet to success.

The Maesron add a frigate to their fleet.

The Trobrins add their dreadnought, torpedo cruiser, and the frigate leader to their fleet.

And we introduce some new empires, too!

The Kzintis, large tiger-like felines, have their powerful dreadnought.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their heavy cruiser, war cruiser, scout, destroyer, and frigate.

The WYN Star Cluster has a ragtag fleet that can only win because every ship that comes through the radiation barrier is badly degraded. Their auxiliary battlecruiser and auxiliary cruiser are based on freighter hulls.

The Koligahr are part of the Omega Octant and the spherical hull sections of their ships are built underwater, and then launched into space to be assembled in orbit. Check out their heavy cruiser and destroyer.

Two new freighters show up hauling short pods: the large and small freighters with short pods.

More New Ships!

On September 1, 2017, Amarillo Design Bureau released its fourth wave of ships (56 in all, for over 150 available ships) in its store on Shapeways.

The Federation gets the galactic survey cruiser which in peacetime cruises through areas not yet explored, searching for new civilizations and for planets suitable for colonization but not inhabited by sapient species. In wartime they become powerful fleet scouts that can carry six fighters.

The Klingons get the largest ship ever to fly, the B10B battleship. While this ship is one piece, the B10B boom was originally designed to detach and so the B10B boom is also available. The B10K battleship with more aztecking is also available.

The Romulans get a flotilla of Centurion gunboats. They also get the powerful Falcon mauler.

The Tholians get even more carriers: the destroyer carrier, the heavy carrier, the police carrier, and the war cruiser carrier. These one-piece ships have the fighters they carry molded into the mini.

The Hydrans add to their fleet with the Crusader frigate leader, Cuirassier frigate, and the Paladin dreadnought. They also get a flotilla of Harrier gunboats.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their dreadnought. They also get their Bobcat gunboat flotilla.

The WYN Star Cluster has a ragtag fleet that can only win because every ship that comes through the radiation barrier is badly degraded. Their auxiliary dreadnought is known as the "Nancy." They also get their Freedom Fighter gunboat flotilla.

The Seltorians add a new heavy cruiser (NCA).

The Frax get a war cruiser scout to use its powerful special sensors to locate enemy targets and threats.

The Maesron add a light cruiser to their fleet. They all are also now available in the larger 3125 Scale.

The Trobrins add the Patroller to their fleet.

The Koligahr are part of the Omega Octant and the spherical hull sections of their ships are built underwater, and then launched into space to be assembled in orbit. Check out their patrol boat!

Two new tugs show up without any pods: the Harbor and Salvage tugs.

And we introduce some new empires, too!

Probr ships are built from a combination of one of more of the "basic hulls" and various wings are added on. Their Steel Heavy Cruiser is an example of this building technique.

The Orion Pirates are, well, pirates. They get their Buccaneer gunboat flotilla.

Have we got a monster for you! The space manta wasn't found until fairly late in recorded history because it destroyed every ship it found. Can you be the first to defeat it? The space manta comes in three different sizes.

Because you asked for them, we have added stands (both a single one and a dozen in a sprue) and stand toppers that will hold three, four, or six fighters or gunboats. We hope you like them.

Check all these out here: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/amarillo-design-bureau-inc

Don't forget you can sort alphabetically and all the 3125 Scale (compatible with your Starline 2500s) go to the top.

Fifth Wave of Ships Released!

On October 2, 2017, Amarillo Design Bureau released its fifth wave of ships (76 in all, for over 200 available ships) in its store on Shapeways.

The Federation gets the guided weapons destroyer which was inspired by encounters with the Kzintis and their drone technology. They also get their drone-armed F-18 Hornet fighters. Especially exciting is the release of the first of the Franz Joseph ships, the Federation destroyer. This is the official Franz Joseph design offered by ADB, Inc. under its contract with Franz Joseph Designs. (We plan to release all five of the Franz Joseph Federation ships over time.)

The Klingons get the B10K battleship boom with more aztecking than the B10B boom, the F5 frigate, and the F5W war destroyer.

The Romulans add a Snipe frigate, BattleHawk destroyer, and the massive King Condor Battleship.

The Tholians add their DPW dreadnought, new heavy cruiser, pocket battleship, and scout. For those who use the pinwheel battle formation, there is a stand topper so you can add your patrol corvettes and variants to it. There is also a one-piece patrol corvette pinwheel with standard patrol corvettes. They also get a large web tender and a larger freighter.

The Kzintis get their frigate and their TAAS fighters.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their battlecruiser, war cruiser scout, and war destroyer.

The Seltorians add a new light cruiser (NCL).

The Frax get a police cutter to patrol their space and startle young Klingon cadets.

The Vupla were part of the Maesron Alliance but later became independent. They get a blockade runner.

The Trobrins add a command cruiser to their fleet. All of their ships are now available also in the larger 3125 Scale.

Probr ships are built from a combination of one of more of the "basic hulls" and various wings are added on. The Bronze destroyer is the latest addition to their fleet.

The Koligahr are part of the Omega Octant and the spherical hull sections of their ships are built underwater, and then launched into space to be assembled in orbit. They get their Fighter Killer. All of their ships are also now available in the larger 3125 Scale.

The small auxiliary cruiser shows up to protect systems from raiders and pirates.

Have we got a monster for you! The planet killer is a robot starship that was built as a doomsday machine. Its powerful destruction beam can destroy a starship or slice a planet into digestible sections. Will you be able to defeat it? The small Planet Killer is about 2"; the medium Planet Killer is about 3"; the large Planet Killer is about 4"; the extreme Planet Killer is about 6" and designed for two flight stands.

ADB Releases the Sixth Wave of Ships!

On November 1-2, 2017, Amarillo Design Bureau released its sixth wave of ships (85 in all, for over 300 available ships) in its store on Shapeways.

The Federation gets the scout which has an abundance of sensor dishes. They also get four fighters: the A-10 "Warthog," A-20 "Avenger," F-14 "Tomcat," and F-15 "Eagle." Especially exciting is the release of the second of the Franz Joseph ships, the Federation scout with no visible sensor dishes. This is the official Franz Joseph design offered by ADB, Inc. under its contract with Franz Joseph Designs. (We plan to release all five of the Franz Joseph Federation ships over time.)

The Klingons get plenty of ships! To better match the original metal Starline 2500 miniatures with their molded-in windows, they have the F5B frigate, D5WB war destroyer, F6B battle frigate, and the HF5B heavy war destroyer. The smoother-winged Klingon ships include the F5S frigate scout, F6 battle frigate, HF5 heavy war destroyer, and SD7B unrefitted strike cruiser. Aztecked designs include the F5WK refitted war destroyer, F6K refitted battle frigate, HF5K refitted war destroyer, D6SK cruiser scout, F5K refitted frigate, F5SK refitted frigate scout, D7K refitted battlecruiser, and SD7K refitted strike cruiser.

The Romulans add the SaberHawk heavy war destroyer, SkyHawk-A destroyer, and War Eagle cruiser.

The Tholians add their command cruiser, web caster command cruiser, dreadnought carrier, scout destroyer, and mighty battleship. For those who use the pinwheel battle formation, there is a stand topper so you can add your destroyers and variants to it. There is also a one-piece destroyer pinwheel with standard destroyers.

The Kzintis get their destroyer and scout frigate.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their PF/gunboat tender, war PF/gunboat tender, and transport tug with two Lyran pallets.

The Seltorians add their strike carrier with its escorts: an escort light cruiser and destroyer escort. The Seltorians licensed from the Klingons their Z-Y fighters, which were released earlier.

The Frax get the first of their submarine ships, a frigate, to startle young Klingon cadets when it fires while cloaked.

Probr ships are built from a combination of one of more of the "basic hulls" and various wings are added on. The dreadnought is the latest addition to their fleet.

The Drex from the Omega Octant are introduced with their battlecruiser and battledestroyer.

The large auxiliary cruiser shows up to protect systems from raiders and pirates.

Most empires used these generic ships: a large freighter (presented in ballast mode with no pods), a small freighter (also in ballast mode), and a large ore carrier.

The Federation gains its Federation Fleet Tug with no pods and a second one with a Starliner pod. Especially exciting are the release of more Franz Joseph designs. There are the Franz Joseph Tug with no pods and another with the Starliner pod, designed to move people across space. The Franz Joseph Federation heavy cruiser is available, based on drawings done for TV (but not pursued due to costs). The Franz Joseph version features a slightly larger, much curvier rear hull and different warp engine spacing and height. These are the official Franz Joseph designs offered by ADB, Inc. under its contract with Franz Joseph Designs. (We plan to release all of the Franz Joseph Federation ships over time. ADB Releases Ships for April!

On April 2, 2018, Amarillo Design Bureau completed its 11th wave of ships (48 in all, for nearly 700 available ships) in its shop on Shapeways.

The Federation gains its Strike Carrier in both the "regular" and "Fed Classic" (started in response to requests for smooth saucers) versions.

The Klingons aren't neglected. They get their D7VB Strike Carrier and D7VK Refitted Strike Carrier.

The Romulans add the OmniHawk Light Dreadnought, OmniHawk+ Light Dreadnought, Shrike Light Dreadnought, KRC Command Cruiser (obvious changes include a belly bird, scallops on the wings, and Romulan insignia), and KRC Command Cruiser (smooth, with no belly bird, no scallops on the wings, and no Romulan insignia for easier application of decals). The "+" indicates it is a late-war design in the style of the Starline 2500 Romulan ships.

The Gorns get their Compsognathus Frigate, Compsognathus+ Frigate (refitted), Compsognathus-B Battle Frigate, and Compsognathus-B+ Battle Frigate(refitted).

The Kzintis get their Battle Frigate.

The Juggernaut fleet was built in another galaxy and sent to check us out. The Juggernaut Frigate is the smallest of the ships that were built that Milky Way residents have documented to this point.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their Cave Lion Battleship. The Lyrans also get their refitted Leopard Destroyer and Panther Light Cruiser in 3788 Scale.

The Hydrans gain their Escort Lancer, Outrider Survey Ship, and Uhlan Patrol Carrier.

The Space Amoeba makes its appearance. The small Space Amoeba is about 2"; the medium Space Amoeba is about 4"; the large Space Amoeba is about 6".

Empires from the Omega Octant continue to have new additions. The Bolosco Merchant Guilds are introduced with their Merchant Cruiser and Exchanger, which is their frigate-sized ship.

Don't forget our nine April 1 ships! The Gorn Bubble Dreadnought (both regular and refitted) was too big for the shipyards unless tugs or light tactical transports were used to move the bubbles around. Add to that it had too many places where it could break and it remains a dream. The WYN Auxiliary Heavy Mauler was a myth (or is it?) perpetuated by the WYNs. It would certainly put a dampener on an intruder's day. The Kzinti Tri-Maran earned its designer a quick execution for suggesting the Lyrans might have had a cool idea to be copied. The Tholian Crown of Tholia was deemed far too expensive in parts to build. One large, unwieldy ship isn't necessarily better than the five ships that could be assembled from the same parts.

The Romulans add the MegaHawk Dreadnought, MegaHawk+ Dreadnought, SuperHawk-K Command Cruiser, SuperHawk-K+ Command Cruiser, RoyalHawk-K Command Cruiser, RoyalHawk-K+ Command Cruiser, K9R Dreadnought (obvious changes include a belly bird, scallops on the wings, and Romulan insignia), and K9R Dreadnought (smooth, with no belly bird, no scallops on the wings, and no Romulan insignia for easier application of decals). The "+" indicates it is a late-war design in the style of the Starline 2500 Romulan ships.

The Gorns get their Carnosaurus Destroyer, Carnosaurus+ Destroyer (refitted), Ceratosaurus Battle Destroyer, Ceratosaurus+ Battle Destroyer (refitted), and Pterodactyl Gunboat Flotilla. The flotilla includes the leader variant and a scout variant. Also included are a 3788 Scale and 3125 Scale gunboat that can be used as a "casual" gunboat that some ships carried. These small gunboats, unlike the Omni Scale gunboats, are designed to be glued to a ship and do not include a stand hole.

The Kzintis get their War Destroyer and 3788 Scale Dreadnought.

The Juggernaut fleet was built in another galaxy and sent to check us out. The Juggernaut Battleship is the largest of the ships and a deadly opponent.

The Lyrans and their wayward county of the Lyran Democratic Republic get their Manx Police Corvette.

The Hydrans gain their Buffalo Hunter War Destroyer, Rhino Hunter War Destroyer, Warrior Destroyer Leader, and Monarch Battleship.

The Moray Eel of Space makes its appearance in three stages of its life. The Young Moray Eel is about 2"; the Adult Moray Eel is about 3"; the Ancient Moray Eel is about 4".

Empires from the Omega Octant continue to have new additions. The Iridani Questors are introduced with their cruiser-sized Galleon-B and frigate-sized Yawl-B.
