Regarding contemporary space suit technology, have a look at http://mvl.mit.edu/EVA/biosuit/ which is also on display at the V&A until January - perhaps there'll be a surge of gamers visiting the V&A later this month/early December (Dragonmeet). There was also a documentary on Channel 4 ages ago; EQUINOX: Spacesuit, produced by Uden Associates for Channel4, transmitted August 25th, 1991.
Regarding Mars itself, Paul mentions Robert Zubrin's fiction, but his day job is as an engineer and has been advocating a Mars mission for many years;
