Yet another Minatures Topic, but this time with Lego...

Mongoose
1st off Ground Zero Games has release a bunch of new figures in 15mm that directly support SF-RPG play. From a free trader crew to alien scum mercenaries. They have several new scenics packs with hatches and doors...

On a weird moment of personnel discovery Last night I was playing around with the household's vast collection of Lego, and I was pondering the basic brick. Said brick (2 studs by 4 studs) is 16mm by 32mm, so a 2x2 tile is 16mm square or almost perfect for use with 15mm figures for terrain. So the sorting is on, my son and I are going to build modular terrain for our adventures.

And for those of you who use mini-figs, I found this sitethat makes Weapons.

Great site!

I used legos years ago to build buildings, starports and starship interiors and used the lego figs as minitures - it worked quite well, though I didn't pay too close attention to actual scales.

Had diecast starships for space combat - but probably could have used bricks as well (in fact as young children, my brother and I had space battles from fleets made mostly of 3~5 brick spaceships).

As did I, then I discovered Lead Miniatures and wargaming in general... I strongly considered going to Lego mini-figs a decade ago when I was sick of the ever inflating size of 25/28/30/33mm figures and the growing need for more table space, but there was the general lack of easy customizable bits and other size/scale issues.... Which was a bummer in that as a kid I built huge habitates and space ships with my Lego collection....

Actually that is why I was playing with them last night I was trying to jigger-up for ships to play with with the boy. I have like a billion metal Ship figures but they are buried deep in the Garage, so I was going use Lego instead of cleaning/sorting the pile out there.

Yes, another case of where stuff is winning.....

Been using lego and Lego figs for traveller now for almost three years. Built a Suliman floorplan, endless airrafts and vehicles, weapons sensors, my son built the players scout base, you name it. And the great thing about the minfigs is that you can actually have them holding what they are using.

And before anyone posts "I don't see why one needs that level of detail in an RPG", just forget it , because this is about cool, and fun, not GNS theory.

Almost makes me wish I hadn't traded my Lego collection to Steve Jackson for a bunch of GURPS books. Almost.

But if there were a way for me to get Lego people, and some 2x2 squares to stand them on, I would (the site there doesn't offer enough for me, I think).

I have blown the day sorting a larger collection of Lego than I thought I owned. Now the big question is what do I build second?

My players have a old Ships Boat. And it is first.

Maybe a docking port?

Air/Raft, without a doubt.

I am so not surprised that he would have legos.....

Two good sources -three depending on where you live: Ebay, Bricklink.com and flea market/swapmeets.

Basic minifigs, of most non-licensed, non rare varieties, reasonably go for .50 to 1.00 each; this includes lots of the non-starwars space dudes, too.
From there you will be hooked, and soon you'll be chasing down that perfect light sandy-tan hair attachment to go with that great head with the bolted on eyepatch you found in a lot you bought....

The best stands seem to be a 2x2 plate, with two of the -what to call then ? 2:1 flat adapters on top for the minifigs feet - they are basically a 2x1 plate with a single stud in top, and connections for two studs on the bottom.

Alternately, if you have the big lego base plates, the figs just plug right in.

Some day I'll post pics of the stuff I have, assuming I can get off my butt from stupid other things like work.

I must admit I had been thinking along somewhat similar lines – using Lego figures to represent PC and NPCs. The problem is the players would spend their time playing with the Lego and not participating properly in the RPG.
I was going to print out some crude deckplans this afternoon so they can try using the figures on Friday night with the Lego figures.

See I am doing the opposite, I am using Lego to build the terrain for 15mm figures.

I was going to build a bunch of modular terrain using foam-core, and was setting up to do so on my table when the errant Lego piece wandered past my sizing figures and ruler.

So one thing leading to another I am in the middle of trying to figure out all the smallcraft in Lego floor-plan terms.

They say great minds think alike... :D

Damn You!........

Now I have to spend money....

Hah! With a name like Megagun it could shoot Nerf balls and players would still have to have one!

[Arntold Shortsdigger stands up and lets loose with his Megagun at the Pirates...he hits for 1d6 minus 6 damage!]
