Would you fire the Lightning Cannon?

Would you ever use the VCDs main guns?

Ok in Armageddon the Victory Destroyer has been revamped and is now, if you'll pardon my Minbari, a 'right double hard bastard' (and thats putting it VERY mildly...)

However it has now been clarified to its pre SFoS status of 'cannot fire any other weapons when it uses the main guns'. Fair enough, that is pretty much as it should be from the shows.

BUT is it powerful enough to make it worth it?

your basically getting 10AD of SAP TD Beam Precise (a terrifyingly potent weapon to be sure).

However in firing this you are trading it for 2 whole turns of firing:

6AD of SAP DD Beam Precise
10AD of AP Mini beams and
20AD of Pulse cannons

so your main gun is nasty but is it really worth sacrificing effectively 72AD of firepower? (not to mention killing your maneuverability and leaving your interceptors down and vulnerable for a whole turn...)

I voted to make charging up noises, it's only a game, may as well have fun...vvvrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbooooooooobbbbbbbppppppppppppppp

Well basically the Lighting Cannon should onyl be fired at very rare occurences.

Something that shorts out yor ship for (long time no see that movie) 30 seconds is not something that seems like a good idea at every moment.

I wouldn't fire it now that it has 20" range, unless I didn't really care about winning or losing.

So... most games I'll fire it :D

i will never fire mine, i can deal far more damage with the other weapons. maybe if it had a 40" range and i got to start that far back but not now.

I personally wouldnt use it most of the time as normally I think you'll do more with the other guns.

However.... against first ones (ESPECIALLY Vorlons) the main gun will come into its own I suspect: Firstly due to the way they take dmg triple damage and precise will result in collossal damage against them and secondly, you will score ALOT of hits with 10AD of SAP beam against hull 5 (at best) targets. I would also use it on larger Drakh ships (who are VERY vulnerable to precise beams (low hull and GEGs dont work on crits)

You can only fire the one gun, and to me that means the weapon is retarded. Especially when you lose interceptors, and become a very viable target

Well it would be worth it if the lightning cannon was good enough. It's good, but not that good.

yep as I said originally its a very good weapon but its not good enough (normally) to make up for the sheer firepower youre giving up (even without the crippling vulnerability you dump on yourself by firing

however you are 6 turns in, your whitestars have been wittled away, and that damned pesky drahk cruiser keeps stopping your weapons with it's geg.... STOP THIS BIATCH! 10 dice of doom, no Geg is going to stop that!
you know it makes sense

sweet tapdancing monkey christ!?!! I had completely failed to notice it had gained that little trait! Thats going beyond 'tough' now and verging on rididculous (it makes it roughly as tough as TWO Warlocks (in fact thinking about it it does in fact make it TOUGHER than two warlocks), can match the Warlock trait for train in just about every other way and even WITHOUT the main guns can almost match one for firepower (I suspect the Warlock outguns the VCD slightly if it cant use its main guns at the same time but oh my good GOD its tough!

edit: actually had another look at the stats and y'know Im not even sure the VCD doesnt STILL outgun most OTHER armageddon level ships!

Surely you meant TD Precision...

I voted whenever possible. My sound effect would be, "Commence primary ignition." <Insert base; starts high, ends low>OOOOOOoooooo</base>

gdamnt, leave the Sag alone fer crying out loud, its the only thing that makes early era EA attractive or viable!!

To be honest, the Victory is a sick little puppy, but like any ship it has it's weaknesses. I think in terms of a campaign, IF you ever got to field one, it would be critted out of the game long before it was destroyed, I still think it is wrong that it was put a priority level above the Sharlin, and I think no-one but vorlons and shadows should have armageddon ships, but I'll have to live with it. It is still killeable, 2 warships, say 2 Bin Taks, or 2 octurions have a good chance to take it down, and even the Adira or Ka'BinTak would have a chance, albeit not the best, and actually we mustn't forget the brivoki. It will get ripped apart, but It will still put 16 beam dice into the victory if it gets a chance.
