Work in progress: scratch-built defense sattelite

Ín order to increase my modelling abilities, I decided to start working on a couple of defence sattelites for ACTA. After making some rough sketches, the design I had in mind for the Drazi looked most interesting, so I started there. here´s some pictures of what I have so far:

Note though that it´s far from being finished; I´ll shorten the "wings" and also add more details to them in the next step, and might replace the green top piece with something more smooth. I´ll also sand the rough edges, but only as a finishing touch. Construction materials btw include Fimo (an oven-hardening modelling putty), Green Stuff, Platicard, plastic pieces and even coins!

I plan to do a mould for them and cast them in resin or pewter, so I won´t have to do model more than one...

I also tried to make it Drazi-looking, but also compatible to other fleets and/or games. Partly for of copyright reasons, partly just because I could.

A soon as this sattelite is finished, I´ll finish a Vree turret (I neither play Vree nor Drazi, btw). I also have an EA and Brakiri Sattelite in early stage of construction, but since I only now and then fin the time to work on the sattelites, those won´t be coming for a while...

Any comments or suggestions?

That is very impressive. Reminds me I want to try scratchbuilding a Bellerophon (and I know someone who can cast in resin too)

Thanks guys! :D

I just realised from the picture that it needs some cleaning, and I guess I´ll use thicker plasticard for the wings - they look far too flimsy the way they are...

Mine are for EAS, They were easy to made. A burst cannon of 40k TAU and 2 missile laucher from a mechwarrior tank.

I have cast my first satellite - sadly, my resin sucks (will have to change it), so it will still take a while to finish and paint it, but I´ll show you first pictures soon! :D

Resurrecting a dead post after quite a while (real-life can be so time-consuming!), I have reworked my Drazi satellite (the wings were a nightmare to cast), and added a more generic one compatible with most other fleets, too.

The mould is currently drying, and I have a new resin which works great. Pictures of the unpainted models should come Friday evening; painted a few days later.

finally, some pictures! The pics quality is not great, but it was all I could manage on short notice.

First, the generic satellite (the bump on top is a small missile launcher - kind of looks like a submarine...):

the re-worked Drazi turret (kind of reminds me of those creatures from "Dr Who, how were they called?):

the "old" turret with wings (sitll have a mould for it, though I have changed the "master" model):

The Daleks! The ones from the new series would give the Vorlons a good run for their money... :(

Really? But they got defeated by a man whose only weapons include a acoustical handy man's tool, a dimensionally challenged Police Box and Billie Piper...
