Which size used ships to buy?

Mongoose
I am about to invest in B5 ship miniatures and I have the opportunity to buy used B5 Wars ship models. I have read in more than one place that the Mongoose miniatures are the B5 Wars miniatures. However, by watching B5 ACTA games I have also discovered that there are two completely different sizes of B5 ship miniatures.

Which size are the Mongoose miniatures? For instance, how long is a Narn G'Quan cruiser? About 2.5" or 5"?
Which size are the scale of the ACTA rules designed for?

AoG who developed B5W created a smaller scale system for which they produced smaller (Fleet Action Scale) models. The Mongoose models are those of the original larger AoG scale.

ACtA works with either scale as all measurements are taken from the stem of the models base (or the centre point of the counter if using those). So the size of the model doesn't matter that much unless the action gets very close where smaller models can gain an advantage being able to get closer to other models without overlapping. However both scales are allowed in Mongoose tournaments.

The models that Mongoose produce and sell are (other than the fighters) of the larger scale.

AOG made 2 scales originally, B5Wars, which is what mongoose currently produces and was originally intended fo small scale ship=to=ship duels, and the there was B5 Fleet Action, or FA, which was a much smaller scale intended to simulate larger battles between squadrons of ships.

ACTA is something of a blend between the 2 styles of play and can be used to represent both in a sense. But as far as ACTA concerned, it doesnt matter which scale ships you actually use, the rules do not take into account mini size at all.

The ACTA scale G'Quan is about 4 inches long roughly.

Another thing to note is that the smaller Fleet Action scale was dis-continued 4-5 years ago.
So any of the newer ship designs in A Call To Arms don't have a Fleet Action (smaller) scale model.

In practise smaller models though gives you advantage as they don't get in each others way the same way bigger models do.
