Where to start ...

I'm just getting back into traveller, after recently discovering the great work that Mongoose is doing. I got the Core rule book, but was looking for some advice on what other books to help get me started. I really like the idea of large scale planetary assaults, so was leaning toward the new Mercenary edition. Are there any other must have books that you recommend? Also, is there a good intro adventure that will serve as a nice way to introduce my players to the rules, before I jump into the Drinax campaign?

If you want the default Third Imperium setting you should get one of the Sector books like Spinward Marches. That is where you'll get much of the 3I setting details.

There are other settings available that you can pick up from Mongoose or third parties.

Of course you don't need any. More work, but you can create your own.

If you're into gearing up, the CSC, or Central Supply Catalog could be useful although if you are getting the 2nd edition Mercenary the weapons may not be compatible from what I've heard.. well, read on the forums.
