When is a Troll not a Troll?

I was reading Thud! recently (the latest Discworld novel) which is all about trolls in Discworld. Then I got thinking about how you would write up Discworld trolls, as they were very different from RQ Trolls. Then I had an inspiration.

There is no such thing as a RuneQuest Troll.

There are different types of troll in Glorantha (Dark Troll, Great Troll, Mistress Race Troll, Cave Troll, Hot Troll, Snow Troll, Trollkin, Giant Troll) but they are specifically Gloranthan.

My earlier comments about there being a Trait of Echolocation and that trolls had Night Sight not Echolocation should actually only apply to Gloranthan Trolls.

Gloranthan Trolls should have Ironburn as a Trait (Take double damage from Iron).

Viking Trolls should probably be more like Cave Trolls with the Traits of Night Sight, Regeneration, Turn to Stone in Daylight.

D&D Trolls should be more like Cave Trolls and have Night Sight, Regeneration, Damaged by Fire.

Discworld Trolls should have completely dfifferent stats to Gloranthan Trolls with completely different Traits.

In fact, the same applies to virtually every other species/creature in RQ. So, Gloranthan Elves are Plant-like Aldryami (not living bushes as they descend from Grandfather Mortal and share the Man Rune with trolls and humans) but Elves in other worlds would be different and may possibly have different stats.

So, in Discworld, Elves are Lords and Ladies and have stats comparable to Green Elves, don't have the Ironburn Trait but do have various Cruel personality traits.

Gloranthan Dwarves are very different to Viking Dwarves or Discworld Dwarves.

Ducks and Broos should probably only be used in Glorantha.

Of course, everyone else is probably thinking "Yes, we know this - it's obvious" - not to me it wasn't.
