Whatever happened to the B5 novels??

Well they're still on the website. In this post, it says they're due in November: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23589&highlight=novels

Things have changed since that was posted, and that change doesn't seem to have been addressed by anyone at Mongoose. The "approved by JMS" business is off again, as far as I know.

Canon and JMS approval don't actually matter all that much to me. After all, JMS was responsible for the fifth season telepath war, River of Souls, Crusade, and Legend of the Rangers, so I think he somehow forgot to tell a good story in his own universe a long time ago.

But I bought and read Visions of Peace, and it wasn't up to professional fiction publishing standards. Some of the layout and typographical issues may have been the result of a rush printing job for a preview release, but the writing wasn't as polished as it needs to be, either.

Almost a year has gone by since then and we still don't know exactly what's going to happen with the B5 novel line. I want the books to come out, but I also want them to be good enough that those of us who buy them can tell other B5 fans that the novels are worth buying and reading, with or without JMS's approval.

I spoke to Matthew at the BF:Evo tourney, he said things were going OK

Do we have a current list of which novels are scheduled? I know there was one last year, along with a number of items showing up on Amazon.co.uk; any changes there?

Ones I've heard about:

Visions of Peace
The Actions of Many
Baptism of Fire (??? THe Claudia Christian penned one)
Ranger Dawning
Ashes of the Past
Birth of Heroes

Nearer the top is more definite info I've heard.

LBH: does that mean that JMS has approved/signed off on them or not?

would appreciate a definative yes or no answer.

Hi guys,

We have agreed to drop the entire novels project - it really wasn't going to go anywhere.

In their place, we have a new B5-related project waiting in the wings. More news on this soon!

Sorry to hear about the novels . :(
I also own one copy of Visions of Peace , and although it lacked the quality of some of the more canonical novels (mainly that of "To dream in the city of Sorrows") , it wasn't worse than most of the Del Rey line of B5 novels .

BTW , would be possible to adquire copies of the other novels , as I adquired my copy of Visions of Peace ??

Waiting with impacience :!:

Damn. I had some concerns about the whole thing, but I was still hoping it would go ahead.

Wait, how did you get a copy of the book? was their a pre-release or something? Is it still possible to get one?

Where any plot details released on these books?

Babylon 5 sure gets it's fair share of lost projects doesn't it...

I blame it on the Technomages . It's either them, or the lost stuff is being fed to the Great Machine, as we all know it is powered by a large (a very large) version of "Mr. Fusion".

The book was a pre-release copy.

So, was the dropping of the novels to keep JMS happy and working with you guys or are there other reasons?

I obviously cannot say much about this, but all parties involved decided it would be better if the novels were put behind us to focus on other projects.

I didn't expect many details, just wondering though. Thanks for the info.

Can you release any information on the books that were planned? Like plot lines and such.

Perhaps a little later on. At the moment, we are very much focussing on the future and the projects that will come to light.

Talking about books I found books 1, 2, 3. 4 Where the writer cant spell G'quan spells it with a "J" and book 7 where the Flag officer changes sex at least 3 or 4 times.

The first can be explained away as a Pak'ma'ra accent. As for the second point, haven't you ever heard of a Changling Net?
