The average TL for the subsector that my Trav game takes place in is around 8.8. So I rounded up and voted 9-12

Worlds vary quite a bit everywhere, but I suspect the question has more to do with where you let your PC do their shopping...

Well you've seen that....

Instead of "G" we have "C" and sometimes "D"

About TL 9 with some items of TL 10 and TL 11 for the remote colonies,
TL 10 and TL 11 plus some rare TL 12 items for the core worlds, TL 11 +
for most of the neighbouring alien species.

However, my TLs are not always identical with the Mongoose Traveller
TLs. For example, computers are far more efficient, while gravitics devi-
ces are far more rare.

I tend to Referee at the upper edge of 11 and early 12 tech levels.

Meson guns are experimental, as is Jump-3. Jump-2 seems to be pretty necessary for most stellar distributions. Sure you could use J-1 with multi-jump fuel, but that takes too long and ruins the existing trade tables (and I'm to lazy to make new ones).

I try to stay away from the upper end of the TL ranges since the farther from real life you get, the harder it is to roll-play, for me anyway.

My game uses the 1248 setting so current TLs are usually in the 4-11 range, with very few worlds above that. However, there are many relics from the higher-tech pre-Collapse past reaching up to TL14...

Midrange for most when starting out, then higher tech as they get to it, and can afford it. Every once in a while I'll throw in a TL15 or Even TL16 gadget from X-TEK just to make the Player's lives more interesting....

I tend to like pocket empire and frontier settings with most equipment in the TL 6-12 range. Higher TL tems are rare on the open market.
