What size fleet and types of ships should I send?

Mongoose
I took over for A GM who has had to go off and look after their ill, thankfully not seriously, mother and have a problem

My GM friend's groups last mission saw them doing Diplomacy with The Strend Cluster that in current day, late Summer 1,152, is bigger then Drinax in the last few years before The Aslan crushed Drinax, The GM assigned A 19+ difficulty to the roll, which meant The Diplomat needee A Double 6 to succeed and rolled A Double 6.

So with The Strend Clusters 27 worlds across 22 Star Systems and 3 Subsectors, 1,780 regular ships ranging from 400 tons to 4,200 ton and worth 2,154 Fighting Dice and 4 Capital Ships Ranging from 13,400 tons ton 23,800 tons their Drinax has 66 worlds across 53 Star Systems and 7 Sectors, 3,945 regular shios ranging from 100 tons to 9,000 tons and are worth 5,479 Fighting Dice and including The Yarrow and A Custom Build 35,200 ton Freighter converted into A Carrier have 6 capital ships that range from 13,400 tons to 50,000 tons

What would be appropiate fleets for Drinax and The Imperium to send. Please advise

I am constantly amazed at the scale of that campaign which seems way beyond a mere RPG's capacity to model.

Plus if you've got to 1152 the Imperium no longer exists - a civil war started in 1116 and as a result of this an all-consuming Virus with a capital V was released and destroyed Imperial civilisation.

All that is left is The Regency which controls the Spinward Marches and Deneb sectors and whose major concern is maintaining a strict quarantine across all its borders to prevent the vampire fleets (I am not making any of this up it is all official Traveller canon from The New Era books) from destroying it as well.

Plus in the official Traveller universe a horde of Aslan Ihatei overran all of the Trojan Reaches in 1119 and it was only the threat of Virus that led to a peace in 1132 that gave the Aslan everything beyond the old Imperial frontier - so Drinax and its pocket empire is gone and if the Floating Palace still floats at all there is an Aslan chieftain sat on the Dragon Throne.

So bottom line is your 1152 is an alternate Traveller universe all of its own now and it is kind of pointless asking any questions here about it.

Deployment of vessels always depends on the mission. If you are sending a show the flag mission, a squadron of cruisers with some battlecrusiers at the core would be sufficient. You'll also need to include a fleet train with spares and supplies. If you expect to be in multiple systems simultaneously you'll need a lot more smaller hulls (DD's, FF's). The question is would the Imperium be able to spare the number of ships to do this?

Plus, do you plan on doing any sort of planetary assaults? If so you'll need Marines and/or Army troop transports, plus ancillary supply ships - especially if you plan to hold any planet you are occupying.
