What do Minbari Players Want?

Apachex

Mongoose
All this talk of other races. What do Minbari players want to see for their fleet?

What I would like:

A patrol level excort
More diversity at Skirmish and Raid PL.

The Troligan at hull 6. More diversity at Skirmish - Torotha variants, and one troop carrier variant as that seems to be the original purpose of it.

More Raid choices would be nice although more of a luxury.

A worthwhile patrol ship and two worthwhile skirmish ships. I've never liked the idea of balancing a game by unbalancing the different priorities and the Minbari need some good low level stuff. Since it's hard to imagine a proper military ship with the Minbari tech level at patrol perhaps a patrol ship could be represented via a worker caste freighter of some sort? Lower stealth score than normal for the Minbari but with somewhat higher crew/damage than we're used to seeing on the Minbari and some close in weapons?

Nials should at least be two flights to the patrol point. One flight is just paying too much while getting too little.

2 Nials per wing (same for Tishats) a few Torotha varients maybe. Stealth rules that are not dice dependant (this has been argued to death in the past so Ill just leave it at that here), Shargotti Command Cruiser (Armageddon level Sharlin). Oh and if you must have the Neroon in the fleet at least make it worth taking!

Nial and Tishat at 2 per wing.

Twin Link the Neshtan's minibeams--make it a viable choice.

Give the Torotha the same manouverability as the WhiteStar 1: speed 15, turns 2/90, and a dodge of 4+--same weapons and stealth.

Just started using my Minbari so not sure I qualify for being here.

A patrol ship - balancing by denial of pls is just a good way to make unbalanced games.

Skirmish variant - troop ship specifically would be nice

Aux craft - in some ways I do want the two per point but with the Victory Point thing being per flight...not sure balance can be preserved anymore by number of flights per patrol point. Ideally I would dump the vp per flight thing and then look at the upgrade with a slight boost to the league fighters numbers as well (think tourney pack numbers) to keep the complaints down.

Haven't played enough above Raid to comment on the big boys...but definately some redundancy that could be weeded out.

# Nial and Tishat at 2 per wing

# make the Neroon a useful ship option

# fix the Torotha
a) more weapon payload or
b) small Whitestar

# make Stealth a useful defense system again
( a opponent you knows what to do can reduce/ switch off Stealth very soon )

# new Minbari ships should be using something new
( out of the Vorlon technology known by building the White Stars ship classes for the ISA )

Exactly. Sharlin stealth 5+. -1 if you're within 8", -1 if you do Scanners To Full or happen to be Drakh, Shadows or Vorlon, another -1 of you have a scout redirect. Thats "anything but a 1". Far too easy to achieve.

Don't tell me to keep range because everyone knows how many turns of APTE that works for against a competent opponent (those who don't: the answer is 1 or 2 maximum).
Don't tell me my mini-beams make short work of fighters because the STF! stays even I do kill them.
Don't tell me to kill the scouts first cos they are usually lurking right at the back and often have stealth of their own.

i think adaptive armour for the neroon would actually be a very good fix and only minor at that as has half the damage almost of the victory at the same level.

other thoughts is make all the fish shaped (ones with tri-fins) stealth 5 and the others stay stealth 4 but are tougher vessels, kind of the old tougher ships or the new more fragile advanced ships. although this would only actually effect the tigar and tinashi variants.

Twin-Linked Neshatan fusion cannon goodness sound nice.

Troligan to Hull 6?

Advanced Armour and another point of command on the Neroon? Perhaps add more Flyers/Nials to it.

I have been playing the minbari in the 14 player campaign in Reno, NV for the past 2 months and actually fighting all the other races with campaign rules. So can say with certainty that ANY race that takes the paltry time to lower stealth can kill any level minbari ship in 1 round.

(and stealth 5 can be removed comletely in 1 round now by:)

Almost all other races have a refit that increases stealth detection by +1
or the Shadow/Vorlon superior tech +1 detection
inside 8" (which is the range for over half the tigaras weapons)-1
Scout CQ8 -1
Fighter STF -1

So I'd like to see stealth only be able to be reduced by 1 total.
(plus 1 increase to decection in campaigns)

A viable fleet list at lower priority games

Comparable damage at any prioroty level:
Sharlin has 42 dice of potential damge
Octurian has 78
G'Quonth has 74

That is a pretty inneffective way of calculating damage potential.

It doesn't factor in double damage, precise, AP & SAP, range. Not to mention fighters and anti-fighter capabilty.

The Sharlin has the nastiest beam of the three. Precise gives you double the crits - more chance to knock out the weapons or stop a ship moving.

Look at secondary weapons: the Sharlin has 50% more range than the Octurion. Not to mention anti-fighter capability.

The Sharlin has more damage points than the G'Quonth. And nearly as many as the Octurion.

And the Sharlin carries the best fighters in the game.

Never was a truer word spoken! Someone give this guy a cookie.

I have to say that you have hit the nail on the head for me. Denial of PLS is OK for campaign games but realistically, most people play one-off games and the fleet lists need to be balanced on that premise.
