Visiting children at Psi-Corps

Do you have any idea if mundane parents can visit their child who is living with Psi-Corps?

I think Psi-Corps would allow it simply because not many people would just give up their child to strangers. But they would try to make sure it happens as little as possible and under circumstances that can be controlled as much as possible.

What do you think?

As Bester was so fond of saying "The Corps is the mother, the Corps is the father." I'd say there is little to no contact allowed...

I think they would try to disallow visitss to Corps facilities, not wanting to disrupt the training patter, more likely to see escorted visits to the home as little as the Corps can get away with. Remember the Corps propaganda ad we see, little blonde kid comes home to visit in full Corps regalia.

If you read the novels as to how and why the Corps was formed it stated somewhere that after the abilies of a Telepath were discovered all children were tested at birth for the Telepahic Ability. There was even mass testing of children already in schools to detect telepaths and segregate them from the rest of polite society.

In all probablity once detected a child was placed in a corps home to never see his parents again.

HOWEVER this was not all bad because the Corps provided all food, clothing, shelter, and education that the child required. More importantly, the corps kept from being killed by mundanes who would see them as dangerous.

On the downside, the Corps also instilled in their charges a feeling of elite/superiority and depending on the psi rating sometimes even complete and utter disregard of mundanes (psi cops)--reference the episode 'The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father' where the psi cop trainee spaced a non telepath as part of their training to be a psi cop.

I think Psi Corp has a tricky line to walk. They have to look like the good guys, after all. Normal mundanes, ones who don't know about reeducation camps and psi experiments, think it's there to keep the telepaths in line and make life better.

To that end: I suspect they would have some rules in place that don't allow non-Corp on the campus, and then never allow the children off campus. I suspect they never outright forbid it, but a lot of pressure can be applied by adults when children are concerned. There are no paper trails where a parent can say "They forbade my child from seeing me", but the kids probably don't go home. And after a few years, they don't want to. Or they run, and become blips.

Also bear in mind that there is instantaneous video conferencing available everywhere. If you're limited to email, well that's tough, but if you can call mom and dad and see them...that probably lessens the sting for the first few months. Then you get busy, then you forget to call...

Finally there's the obvious point: it's possible they simply subtly reprogram the kids to not want to go home. Remember Talia's account of her first handler? She said she was being scanned and felt really warm and accepted and comforted. It's possible a few subtle things are implanted early on to keep the children more loyal. That's never stated, and the Corp seems to prefer traditional methods of brain washing on their own, but who knows.
