Victory at Sea Supplement - who would buy it?

Ben2

Mongoose
Fairly self explanatory, if Mongoose did an expansion who would buy it, and what would they want in it?

Here is what I would want in contents.

German Z plan navy
Expanded German aircraft (Dornier, ME 110, Condor for example)
More British ships
Expanded British aircraft (Wellington, Lancaster, Albacore, Barracuda)
Hypothetical N and G classes.
More American carriers, a few more American aircraft (land based bombers).
Italian Soldati and Giulo Cesare, plus aircraft etc. Plus their historical and conjectural carrier.
More Japanese ships, particularly carriers and more aircraft.
Anything French not yet done, and land based aircraft not covered.

New navies

Possible new navies to include:

Free Polish.
Greek.
Possibly expand period back to include Spanish Civil war (also provides what ifs for Spanish join axis).
Chinese navy - to get butchered by the Japanese.

Essentially I would want to see a lot more ships. And a counter set to go with the supplement.

I'd be willing to spend £20-25 on a supplement the size of VAS (or plus some more pages) with counters.

Who else would want to see a supplement, what would you want in it and what would you be willing to pay (as price point will determine what they can fit in it)?

It's hard to say what would tempt me to buy a supplement but I do know what would turn me off of the idea, packing it full of extra "advanced" rules.

One of the things that really attracted me to the game was how simple and clean the rules were, I'd hate to see that lost. Yes it's fine for me to say that I won't buy or use the new rules but if every other VaS player does then it knocks me out of being able to play easily with others.

For just expansions of current fleet lists, I'd like the see them just release those through S&P. Then, after a year or something they could compile all the VaS S&P articles into a big compendium and sell that. I'd buy it, just to have it all in one place!

I would actually most like to see a WWI supplement released! Of course, they might release WWI as a whole separate product, rather than an add on/ruleset tweak to VaS!

If they do release a VaS supplement for WWII, I'd like to see a whole bunch of scenarios, as well as historically based "what-if" scenarios, like "What if the American fleet had sailed out of Pearl to engage the Japanese?"

Regardless. . WWI, WWII, I'll buy any supplement they make for this game! :)

I think I convinced my Dad to climb on the VaS bandwagon as well!

The WW1 supplement for me please. WW2 sea warfare was dominated by the aircraft carrier and the submarine, WW1 was ruled by the battleship.

There are some essential subjects that there wasn't room for. Kamakaze's and mines for example. Not add ons just for the sake of having new rules but stuff that made a difference in the war.

WWI for me. Yes I would buy that, but I don't think I would pre-order it.....

WWII Extra fleets - no I deffinitely would not bother to pay for this

If it were up to me I would definitely expand it to include WW1 vessels, as well as complete the current fleet lists.

That would probably be a whole different game or at least 96 pages all to itself. It's a safe bet that WWI ships won't make their way into a first supplement. Still too much that needs to be covered for WWII.

Not necesasrily. You could simply use 'reserve fleets' made up of decommisioned vessels and the like. As in small fleet lists that utilize lots of old barely seeaworthy junkers.

There are already WW1 era ships in VAS (the Clemson DD springs to mind, and the R Class battleship in the Russian article). But in a WW2 setting ships like this are, as they shoudl be, distinctly second rate. After all, who on earth would willingly take an R Class into battle? :)

In 1918 they were pretty much state of the art battleships. The QEs definitely were. Representing WW1 fleets really requires a resetting of the formulae used to determine ship stats. Aspects of gunnery and torpedo combat also have different emphasis that may be better suited to subtle revisions of the combat system.

Range finding and target accquisition were different, aircraft were a whole lot different. Campaign rules would need tweaks. I'm sure there's more but it's not coming to mind (but DM might be along with more :) ).

Noy having a *full* fleet list would leave WWI enthusiasts out in the cold. If you look at the number of ships in VaS you can see we've only scratched the surface for WWII. The Great War needs full everything.

A supplement with all the "stuff" thats missing is a must

I find myself sulking I dont have HMS Furious or Akagi but do we have to have imaginary ships too ?. I think the what if ships could be published in the S&P perhaps ?.

Supplement-wise, I'd like to see additional ships (real & envisioned) to fill out the major protagonists of the Second World War.

If they expand VaS into a series, I'd like to see the First World War and the Age of Fighting Sail get their own treatment (and if I get very, very lucky, I might get Fighting Ships of the Ancient World too).

Regards,
Larry

A Supplement with all the missing stuff in the US/UK/IJN/Italian plus the few missing German and French, plus Russians, plus Dutch (Java Sea would be a great scenario, especially with a what if the US still had the Brooklyn and Marblehead, and possibly some more optional Austrailian Cruisers (Hobart, Australia, or Canberra).
A WWI supplement would also be good.

All the missing ships. I have large amounts of ships that I can't use because they haven't included the class in the rules. Bugs the life out of me that I buy a game that is to all intents and purposes not complete and it doesn't inform you on the cover that this is the case. Yet another company leaning to towards the dark side of GW. Give the punter a worm and let them bite. So now if they do actually do a supplement I have to fork out more cash to them to complete the game.

So, you're complaining that not every ship of every fleet in every navy in the whole of WW2 wasn't included in one book? Would you like it hand delivered? Jam on it?
