Vassal... Combat and Data Tracking

I'll start by saying that I've done next to nothing with Vassal so I really don't know that much about what it is like to play ACTA using it.

That established, from what I've seen it appears as if there are only rudimentary methods for resolving an attack. In other words, if you are firing with the broadsides on a Bimith, you click the xD6 button, enter 16 and then it rolls out all 16. You then figure out which ones missed and then enter those in to do a re-roll. You add up all your hits and then start rolling on the hit table and so on and so forth... Am I right in my thinking of how the process works? If so I wonder if anyone has attempted to streamline this process in the same way that I did long ago with the combat sim.

For tracking damage, crew, interceptors, etc; is that handled within the game or do you have to do it externally?

Yes your correct.

Each counter has a properties sheet, were u can log damage/crew/interceptors and anything else u want.

Interesting... I've seen that you can modify the code for Vassal so I wonder just how hard it would be to impliment the combat sim in there. Something where you just enter the relevant data and it spits out the end results without having to roll everything out one series at a time. Would speed things up considerably.

Oh and on the ship data, it's the player's responsibility to log all that right? The game doesn't really have a way of knowing which ship was fired upon or how much damage it took from the attack correct?

Yes it would speeds thing up alot.

How to do it or even if its possible, is Way beyond me ...lol :D

Thats correct, its all manual, u have to input damage yourself.
It really is a game board and dice on the net.

Besides if u could get it to resolve combat down to the final results it would be a huge step forward.
Inputting the damage on the counter yourself only takes a second.

it would be cool, i play a battletech game online using java where all you have to do is decide where to move, what weapons to shoot at what targets etc and it works all the modifiers and everything else out including damage. if could get something similar for this would be amazing. however thats hex based so easier but maybe talk to the developers. think the site for it is www.megamek.net
