Hi Folks,

This years Student Roleplaying and Wargaming Nationals will be held in Edinburgh on Friday 30th March until Sunday 1st April. This years nationals is being run by the four different Edinburgh based university societies; EU Wargames, FAQ, GEAS and Watt-Gamers.

Amongst the Wargames categories on offer this year are Mongoose Publishing's Starship Troopers and Babylon 5: A Call to Arms.

Application packs have been mailed out to university's this week. However we know we will not have reached everybody who might like to enter. If you are a university student or a member of a university gaming society and have not received an application pack, then please drop me a PM with your contact details. I can arrange to have one sent out to you.

More details of the event (and a full category list will eventually be uploaded) can be found by following the URL at the end of this post.

I have no idea why just "students", but the University societies makes sense as hosts, we are looking to have to provide over 60 GM's for the roleplaying, plus another 10-20 for the others categories - Wargames, CCGs and Boardgames and LARP. Then there are all the Gophers we need. This, and the space needed tends to limit venues somewhat.

I have not been a student for 7 years now, but I am still a member of the university games society - so for some reason I qualify. There are a bunch of 'independents' that do show up, and Team RONIN tend to be made of independents - have a look on the website.

Mind you if you lost to a student you might have to kill yourself for the shame or them coz they obviously have nothing better to do than play games when they should be getting educated!

Presumably only students who have (or whose friends have) cracked the problems of time travel can attend since April this year has already passed :) (who won?)

I'm a student and all the dudes I beat at Master of War are still walking ;)

if you were a true student you would have come to the pub and nothing would have stoped you.

The 2006 competition was won by Bradford Uni. However they wanted to go head-to-head with Sheffield so gave the hosting job to Edinburgh in 2007 (thats next year).

Slightly off topic here but still relavant. I have been asked to help out with the Nationals next year and will be helping coordinate all the miniature games so hope to see some of you folks there.

Marc

As has been said above, Team RONIN are made up of non- (or ex-) students so if anybody is interested in coming along but isn't a member of a university gaming society then contact me. Deadline is 31st December.
