Turrets and Particle Beams

The Errata for High Guard says;

Only one particle beam may be fitted to a turret, but this
must be a triple turret.

Does that mean that no other weapons can be fitted in the same turret? I've seen ships in other books, can't remember exactly where, that had a Triple Turret with a P-Beam/Laser/Sandcaster combo. Is this correct?

That ship might have been before the errata came out. Though it's not clear if that's meant to be the only thing in the turret or not.

Correct.

It was unclear in the early printings, thus there are variances...

Whilst there's no specific ruling I'm aware of, yes.
The triple turret is required because particle beams are big. If you could fit one in a triple turret with two other weapons, there's no reason you couldn't have fitted one in a single turret.

Think of it as the P-Beam taking up three slots. There for it needs a three slot turret to fit one and only the P-beam will fit.

Badly worded and early designs did indeed have three P-beams in a triple turret which was fun :lol:

ditto's on CJ's reply. Some other versions of Traveller actually call out how many slots a ships weapon takes up in a turret (with 1, 2, and 3 space turrets) One ships weapon are plasmas cannons, which take up 1.5 slots, meaning you can have two plasma cannons in a 3 space turret.

Supplement 2 - Traders & Gunboats
Criminal Vessels - Armed Fast Smuggler, page 60

"Triple Turret (Particle Beam x3)"

The ships in that book where done before the High Guard errata, which limited Particle Beams to 1 per turret.

So if you see one of them bearing down at you with three particle beams blazing, you'll have to tell the ship that it's cheating. :)

Cue a Monty Python in space type skit. :D
